I would perform a hard reset of the printer electronics and also reinstall the driver to see if the combination of these two procedures restores proper operation.

How do you clean the

I was able to fix the bad printhead problem.
I found a solution using Windex or a product with similar ingrediants.
I took a paper towel and folded it over so it was four layers thick.
Then soaked the paper towel in the Windex.
Then took the prinheads from the printer and set them each (jethead down) onto the saturated paper towel.
Then pressed the bottom of the Printhead into the towel.
I added more Windex and periodically pressed the heads into the soggy towel.
I had to repeat a couple of times and the second time let them sit overnight.
In the morning I cleaned them off with some rubbing alcohol and put them back into the printer.
They now work just fine, please let me know of it works or not

On these machines, a second look inside the machine might help. Some sensors are deep inside. The actuators are very small, and you can miss them completely. Use a flash light and observe all areas for a sensor actuator. It may have gotten pushed off its position slot.
Some machines have glass sensors. Sometimes paper hole punches get down in there and will rest on a sensor. This will keep the machine from operating. Paper dust can also cause these sensors to keep the machine from coming back to a ready.
Check the document feeder to see if all actuators are working correctly. On some machines, the sensor may complete come off its correct position and will have to be put back in its original position in order for the machine to know to come back to a ready state.
Good luck.

If your sacnner still fails to function, uninstall everything for the Officejet through add/remove in control panel. (Power off printer before uninstalling).
Go to Hp's web site. http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/welcome.html#Support
Step 1. Click, Download drivers and software (and firmware).
Go to step 2. For product, type in Officejet k60xi .
Power on your printer. (Wait for printer to fully power on).
Click, Start Detection>> button.
Allow HP to scan your system & install the latest software.
Follow the on scren instructions. (When finished, restart your PC). Test your scanner by scanning something.
If your scanner still fails to scan, you may be missing basic HP files loaceted in windows system & windows system32 folders.
(These missing files were not installed during your install of windows). Not your fault.
