( 3rd party inks have IC chips that are usually not as robust as HP's, If- you've tried a Brand new Never inserted cartridge and still have the same error,you nedd to look at how the plotter recognises a cartridge, the IC chip (found at ink cart bottom) needs clean contacts check and clean the same for the opposite contacts in the plotter- wipe over with a alcohol wipe, allow to dry and try again, if it fails again I would suggest a replacement ISS ( ink Supply Station) a common failure on th Iss gives this exacting fault and may well be the cause, as above the ISS is a Service engineer fit,but can be handled by the customer if they are confident and thorough when following instruction, a ISS will likely cost about $200 so suggest you try cleaning the ink mist from the contacts first,

Well this is an old post but my 2 cents anyway...Theres nothing to really fail on the service station besides the motor and that's highly unlikely.As a service tech I find that it gets gummed up with in and needs to be broken down and cleaned.Warning, there's lots of parts and lots of half dried ink, so expect to spend an hour getting it out of the machine and cleaning.

The dates are on the package for a reason. The ink dries out or changes viscosity over time and will likely clog the printhead. My advice is not to stock up on cartridges because of this problem. If you look online, you can find replacement chips or instructions on how to reset the chip on the cartridge.
