Hp officejet 9120 won't power down but won't print either, it seems to be locked up, display just shows dots scrolling right to left

Unplug your printer from the outlet for several minutes and repower it back up. I have had this with my printer and usually solves the problem.

The error message is saying

If you opened the lid in the same manner as you would to replace the ink cartridges and made sure that the switch on the right side underneath the lid was in fact unlocked, turned off the unit, waited a moment (up to 60 seconds) and turned the unit back on, but still receive the message saying that your scanner is locked, then you will need to use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the top cover and make sure that the scanner head is not somehow jammed. Usually you can hear the gears and motor spin up when the scanner head is unlocked. If you cannot, you may have a bad scanner head.

Keeps showing empty cartridges (they are not)

The jets are clogged. You will either need to replace them or take them out and clean them with alcohol or WD40 and a long cotton swab.

Printer will not scan ( says scanner locked) it is

Open the latch on the front of the unit above where the paper comes out, underneath the lid on the right side is an orange switch. Flip the switch, turn off the until, wait about a minute and turn it back on. The scanner is physically locked by this switch. I believe the proper position for unlocking is towards the front of the unit, but the diagram is underneath the lid next to this orange switch.

How to change the toner

This unit does not use toner. It uses ink cartridges, hence it is called an OfficeJET All-in-One INKJET Printer. To change the ink cartridges, you lift the latch located on the front of the unit above where the paper comes out.

HP 9120 Constantly aligning printheads

hi thanks for using fixya!

I recommend that you should replace the printheads to anew one. And you have replace the color ink cartridges as well. If you have used an exprired cartridges, it will result an error to your printhead. Always make sure that you always change the ink cartridges whenever it is required and if you are frequently using it heavily. Backdating the machine is helpful, however it will be more efficiently if you replace the printheads. By the way, how many years now your are using your HP printer? Did you had a chance to send it to any HP Service Center for maintenance as well? I recommend to my clients if they are heavily using or not the machine, it should be always be maintained every 6 months.

If you need further assistance, let me know.

I am getting a scanning error. Scanner not responding.

Hi,

Does the error show up on PRINTS FROM YOUR COMPUTER also, or only when SCANNING A DOCUMENT? If the line is only from scanned documents, the SCAN GLASS has something stuck on it. The SCAN GLASS is a GLASS ==> located under the ORIGINAL FEEDER. It is NOT the plate of glass you place the original on . Look UNDER the original feeder for a scrap of paper stuck in the optical path of the GLASS ****, and remove the scrap, or CLEAN THE SCAN GLASS IF CORRECTION FLUID, INK, ETC ARE STUCK ON IT. If the line shows up on ALL prints, your CHARGE CLEANING SLIDER located in the IMAGING (DRUM) UNIT must be slid all the way to one end of the charger, OR IT WILL CAUSE A BLACK LINE ON ALL PRINTS. Otherwise, the IMAGING UNIT may need to be cleaned or replaced. Toner smudges on the drum would indicate need for cleaning or replacement.
Sounds like you have a glitch in the main logic board of the printer when it prints the axial location buffer is loaded either with junk or isn't functional and sees nothing but blank data in that location. Try resetting the printer consult manual/mfg for reset codes? Thanks Have a nice day.
