xp is; start button>run>type msconfig>startup tab>look for any entry with HP in the title and check that box.

Please, how does your Win 7 x64 machine compare to anything else on your network? Can any other computer see that printer at all? When you install the printer locally does that mean by USB, or what please?

first of all try changing the power cable, if the problem persist this is a board problem.

Bought new ink and ink drop is still flashing!

For poor printing problems I suggest you run the Tap 10 diagnostic print test (see link to video below). If the new (or refilled/reman/compatible) HP 56, 57 or 58 ink cartridge refuses to print black/color and/or function at all (i.e. blinking ink light on Deskjet 5000 series printer) or fails to complete the printer alignment following cartridge installation, then the ink cartridge either has a connectivity issue with the flexible printed circuit cable (inside unit where cartridge mates with cable), the rear cartridge contacts or cable contacts are dirty with ink residue, or the cartridge is suffering from marginal internal electrical performance. It is suggested you perform the TAP 43 (and TAP 10) DIAGNOSTIC PRINTER TEST to evaluate the ink cartridges electrical performance. Dear Lesley,For downloading driver software, please visit the HP site page : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=304431. On this page, please select your OS and click next. Now, there will be option called "Driver - Product installation software" section, expand and select appropriate version you need to install and you will be taken to download page. Before installing, just remove previous software, if installed (recommended).

Try to get your printer to recognize the new cartridge; go to start - printer and faxes -right click on printer - preferences (printing preferences) -settings -load factory settings. Print test page Ctrl+P

Why would you want to bypass the alignment phase? That is the time that the printer sets it's registration. You would most likely suffer a poorer print image if you were to bypass, I recommend you perform that step.

Open the cover.In right side you'll see the cover sensor.It's a plastic lever, which does down to the bottom of printer.The top side of this lever usually breaks.

I didn't get your question,even I am trying to give you solution. Switch on the printer, left top cover wait until carriage arrive at middle, remove mono cartridge, take out swab nozzle area with good cotton or ear buds adding with alcohol(solvent) gently in one direction,repeat three to four times & shake well and see ink coming out from nozzle area?, clean nozzle area with tissue paper put it back & check for print..

install the printer dirver (cd driver) on your note bookset it as defult printer in (start menu >printer and faxes > right clik on printer> choose set defult)
