Is the new cartridge a knockoff or an original? Some non factory cartridges do not send the right signal to the computer.All I can say is: keep the bill. If you print 10 pages and it's empty, return it and say they sold you an empty cartridge. Doesn't happen often, but it can!Just keep printing anyway, and hopefully it will reset.

what color is the line? if is a color line it will be that color drum. after that I would go after a fuser.

There is an option in the printer driver to print in color, B+W or greyscale - make sure it is set to color.
