remove and check color cartridge

My wife and I received a HP 6210 All In One from a friend. They told us it was brand new, never used although the box was open. We plugged it in and tried to use the copy machine but when we turned it on we got this remove and check color cartridge. We bought a new cartridge, removed the sticker on it, placed it in the correct spot. We got the same error message. Tried to turn it off and back on, same error message. Unplugged and plugged back in, same error message. What is the problem with this machine? Unfortunately it did not come with any manuals so reading the troubleshooting there is not an option at this point. Should I trash this machine and get a new one? Do these all in one machines have to be connected to a PC to work? Or can I just run the copy machine without connecting to a PC? Thank you very much for any help you can give me. Frustrated Copier.

This is not a joke! I've owned 3 premier HP ink-jet printers and each one broke under extremely suspicious circumstances. They provide a very limited amount of use time, and their cartridges are severely OVERPRICED!

I believe that anyone reading this should look at their HP, and replace it with a "Brother", "Lexmark", "Kodak", or other reputable company that provides a "DURIBLE" product.

HP is a huge brand name, and they have established themselves for their ease of use. But a printer is not a pair of shoes that should be changed every year or 2. They are poorly constructed, and they get back every penny you save on them by overcharging on the ink.

HP should PAY for betraying their costumers trust, and simply "Lose" their customers! Kodak is better anyways! HP is a second rate product with first rate "BRAND RECOGNITION".

The drivers for this printer can be found at HPs Website HERE.

Please select which version of the OfficeJet 6210 you have and then the operating system. From here you can download the drivers as well as other associated applications, or order a replacement CD.

Please be aware that some of the downloads are big so a fast internet connection is advised.

Good luck

HP All-in-one will not scan

Printer-works fine fax-works fine copier-works fine scanner-problem- will not scan from scan button on machine(all-in-one)itself. When I press the scan button, "No scan Options" and "Need to install or run device software for feature" appears in window on the machine. OK I have uninstalled and installed the software that came with the machine. Everything else works, why not the scanner feature?? This is mt second all-in-one, the first one died after two years of perfect service. Everything worked fine. Question: Why won't my scanner scan when I press the scan button??

I think I have the solution for you (after facing similar problem). Try installing the drivers and then go to my computer right click on the HP and select "Scan using wizard". My HP is able to scan using this method although I still can't scan using the button on the printer so if you don't mind clicking the mouse instead of the printer's button you should be fine. Let me know if it worked. Cheers, D.

Carriage jam

After several years of excellent use, my 6210 developed this carriage jam. We can't find any logical reason for it, i.e. no paper jam, but the print cartridges don't move all the way to the starting position. The troubleshooting guide only lists paper or packing material as a cause.

Has anyone else had this problem?

There's a small locking mechanism that holds the carriage in it's home position. This needs to be slightly sprayed with WD-40 or a similar lubrication (small amount). Problem solved.

As "Guest" posted on Feb 05, 2009 the problem for me was the box in the back of the printer that facilitates double sided printing. One side had come loose. I was getting "Paper Mismatch" errors, and the text was printing slanted. I simply pulled the box out and reinstalled it. Problem solved.

The printer won't print.

The printer won't print. It says replace the color ink cartridge. All I want to do is print black and white.

You can only use the black ink cartridge without the color ink. But no need to replace them in your printer.
When you print just choose black and white for the printed text must be black not colored. But if you still received such notification...just try to replace the color ink cartridge to continue printing
Note: As per my experience. printer with exclusive black ink alone will damage the printer easily due to unbalance printing of ink

  • Open the Printer Toolbox . There are two ways to do this:
    • Click Start and select HP Solution Center . Select the Settings menu, then the Print Settings submenu, and finally the Printer Toolbox .
    • In your printing application, click File , click Print , and click Properties . Click the Services tab, then the Service This Device icon.
  • The Printer Toolbox opens. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. A cartridge may be running out of ink even if the graphic shows ink remaining (see the note at the start of this section). Lines or streaks always appear in printouts when the cartridges begin to run out of ink. Replace print cartridges that are out of ink or low on ink.

    Try This :
    Connect the printer directly to the wall outlet ; not through any Power strip
    Then Unplug the Power cable from the back of the printer
    Keep on tapping the power cable for next 30 seconds
    Plug in back the power cable;
    Open the rear access door and you will get to see some rollers
    Clean the rollers with a Lint free cloth Moistened with some distilled water
    Try to do a copy if still it doesn works
    Then Unplug the Power cable from the back of the printer
    With one hand press and hold down the (#) and the (6) button and with the other hand plug in back the power cable ; it will do a Semifull reset on the printer; This will take some time ; Follow the instruction on the screen;
    If still it doesn't work then you need to contact HP ;
    The toll free no. for HP would be : 1-800-474-6836
    They will replace the printer for you free of cost (No Charge if the printer is in warranty i.e within 1 yr of purchase)

    left hinge is broken on HP officejet 6210

    left hinge is broken on HP officejet 6210

    Let me know if you find a source for replacements. In the mean time, I kept my unit working by just removing the broken top half of the hinge.
    You have to remove 5 screws using a TORX T10 screwdriver. First remove the small plate covering the back of hinge on the outside. Then remove the two vertical screws at the top of the hinge up under the hinge lip. Then open the cover (be careful to hold it in place so as not to damage the three flex connections between the lid and body) and remove the other two screws at the top of the hinge. Remove the broken top half of the hinge and lower the cover back down. Until you find a replacement hinge, you can put a piece of heavy duty tape on the back where the hinge was.
