I have the same problem with a new psc 1610. The paper is not grabbed. Their might be a sticky spray for the rubber rollers to help? Handfeeding each page currently (sigh). All else works well though. good luck.

HP PSC 2355 paper jam

Recently, I have been having the same problem crop up each time I try to print/copy anything on my PSP 2355. The machine pulls in a sheet of paper on request but instead of printing in normal manner, but instead of stopping as if to print at top/beginning of sheet, the sheet continues about half way through the machine, then stops. Error message 'Paper jam. Press OK to continue.' appears but there is no jam. Removing sheet of paper & returning it to tray doesn't help; same thing happens each time.

  1. Press the Setup button.
  2. Use the arrow keys to select Tools and then press the OK button.
  3. Select Clean Print Cartridge and then press OK . The device prints a test page.
  4. Examine the test page. If the print quality of the page is good, stop here. If the print quality is bad, go on to the next step for further cleaning.
  5. Open the Printer Toolbox . There are two ways to do this:
    • Open HP Director , select the Settings menu, then the Print Settings submenu, and finally the Printer Toolbox .
    • If the HP Director method does not work, open Printers and Faxes in the Windows Control Panel , then right-click your printer icon and choose Properties . Click on Printing Preferences . Click the Services tab, then the Service This Device icon.
  6. The Printer Toolbox opens. On the Device Services tab, click Clean the Print Cartridges , then follow the on-screen instructions. Up to three levels of cleaning are available. Discard or recycle the page that prints.

If the steps have not solved the problem, clean the electrical contacts on the print cartridge and in the carriage.
  1. Gather the following items to clean the cartridge and print carriage:
    • Clean distilled water. Use bottled or filtered water if distilled water is not available. Tap water can contain contaminants that damage the cartridge.
    • Clean cotton swabs or any soft, lint-free material that will not stick to the cartridges (coffee filters work well).
    • Sheets of paper or a paper towel to rest the cartridges on during cleaning.
  2. Open the product cover and wait until the print carriage stops moving.
  3. Remove the cartridge and place it on a piece of paper with the nozzle plate facing up. NOTE: Clean the contacts quickly so that the cartridge is not outside of the product for more than 30 minutes. If the cartridge is outside of the product for too long, the ink can dry and clog the nozzles.
  4. Unplug the product.
  5. Dip a swab in the clean water, and then squeeze it to remove most of the moisture. The swab should be only slightly damp.
  6. Clean the print-cartridge contacts. Do not touch the nozzles. Figure 1: Cartridge electrical contacts c00832021.gif
  7. Clean the contacts in the print carriage, inside the product. Figure 2: Carriage contacts c00246272.gif
  8. Either let the cartridge sit for ten minutes to allow the cleaned area to dry, or use a new swab to dry it.
  9. Reinstall the cartridge, plug the product back in, and close the product cover.
  10. Try to print again. If the issue still appears, continue to the next step.

In the black print cartridge, this problem might be caused by sediments collecting in the nozzle area. Perform the following steps to solve this problem:
  1. Remove the black print cartridge.
  2. If the carriage has a latch, re-latch it and then close the printer. NOTE: If the printer is not closed, it cannot adequately protect the remaining tri-color cartridge.
  3. Place the cartridge on a level surface with the nozzles up (label down). Figure 4: Cartridge with the nozzles up c00260331.gif
  4. Allow the cartridge to sit undisturbed for two hours.
  5. Reinstall the cartridge and print another diagnostic page.
    1. Load letter or A4 unused plain white paper into the input tray.
    2. Press and hold the Cancel button and then press the Start Copy Color button.
    3. Make sure that the test patterns show a complete grid and the thick color lines are complete.
    • More than a few broken lines in a pattern can indicate a problem with the nozzles. You might need to clean the print cartridges.
    • If the black line is missing, faded, streaked, or shows lines, this might indicate a problem with the black print cartridge in the right slot.
    • If any of the color lines are missing, or if the pattern appears faded, streaked, or shows lines, this might indicate a problem with the tri-color print cartridge in the left slot.
  6. Look for defects on the page. If the diagnostic page shows no defects for the black cartridge, and if the cartridge was new, align the cartridge. To align the cartridge, follow the steps:
    1. Load letter, A4, or legal unused plain white paper into the input tray.
    2. In the HP Solution Center, click Settings , point to Print Settings , and then click Printer Toolbox . NOTE: You can also open the Printer Toolbox from the Print Properties dialog box. In the Print Properties dialog box, click the Services tab, and then click Service this device . The Printer Toolbox appears.
    3. Click the Device Services tab.
    4. Click Align the Print Cartridges and a print cartridge alignment sheet is printed.
    5. Load the print cartridge alignment sheet with the print side down on the right front corner of the glass.
    6. Press the Start Scan/Reprints button and the HP All-in-One aligns the print cartridges. Recycle or discard the print cartridge alignment sheet. For aligning the cartridges from the hardware only, follow the steps:
    7. Load letter or A4 unused plain white paper into the input tray.
    8. Press and hold the Cancel button and then the On/Power button.
    9. While the Check Paper and Check Print Cartridge lights are blinking, press the following buttons one at a time in the following order: Cancel , Number of Copies , Paper Type , Color Start

reset to factory defaults, also check the whole printer for paper jams. A paper jam can often casue smaller pieces to get stuck in gears or rollers. The message about opening and closing the lid is how the printer knows you went in to check it and closeing it triggers it to try again. If thers still a jam it will keep giving the message. The fist jam was caused by something, check and make sure there isnt any pieces of plastic broken off inside. If it has a rear access panel, check there also.

Introduction When the all-in-one detects a paper jam, the display will read, " Paper jam: Press OK to continue ." The computer might display the following message: " There is a paper jam (or misfeed). Clear the jam and press the Enter, Resume or OK button on the HP PSC. " This document will assist in correcting paper feed problems such as paper jamming, print slanting, and multiple pages feeding into the all-in-one. Clearing paper jams CAUTION: All paper jams must be removed from the back of the all-in-one through the rear access door. Pulling the paper from the front of the unit rotates the paper feed roller in the wrong direction and can cause damage to the all-in-one.

  1. Turn off the all-in-one and unplug the power cord.
  2. Turn the all-in-one around so the back of the unit is facing out.
  3. Open the rear access door:
    1. Locate the tab on the left side of the door and press it toward the right. The door will shift slightly to the right.
    2. As the door shifts to the right, pull the door out slightly to release.
    3. When the door is released, gently remove the door by sliding the door out and to the left.
Figure 1: Removing the rear access door c00212276.jpg
  4. Inspect the pressure rollers on the access door. They should be clean and rotate easily. If needed, clean the rollers with a soft lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water (distilled water preferred). If the rollers do not rotate easily, they may need to be replaced.
  5. From the access door opening, gently remove the jammed paper.
  6. Remove the paper stack from the paper supply tray. Discard any paper damaged or bent.
  7. Re-stack the reload the paper into the paper supply tray. Push the stack into the tray until it stops.
  8. Re-seat the rear access door:
    1. Insert the two posts on the right of the door into the holes on the right side of the opening (as shown in the figure below).
    2. Press the tab on the left side of the door toward the right. The door will shift slightly to the right.
    3. As the door shifts to the right, push in the left side of the door to lock it into position.
Figure 2: Rear access door posts c00212277.jpg
  9. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the unit.
Causes of recurring paper feed problems If paper feed problems occur repeatedly, one of the following might be the cause:
  • Something is obstructing the paper or print cartridge path. Open the cover of the all-in-one and check for obstructions.
  • The rear access door is unlocked or improperly seated. Follow the steps above to remove and re-seat the access door.
  • The paper width guide is not positioned against the paper. Adjust the paper width guide against the edge of the paper.
  • The paper is not supported. Paper should be flat and smooth with no folded, torn, or rough edges. Some glossy and/or coated papers, or reused paper (already printed on one side) can experience a higher incident of paper feed issues.
  • The paper tray is not fully extended.
  • The paper feed rollers need cleaning. Over time paper fibers and dust will stick to the rollers and should be removed. See instructions for cleaning the rollers below.
Paper jam message displays but no paper is jammed The print carriage might be jammed. Follow these steps to correct the problem:
  1. With the power on, lift the print cartridge access door. The print carriage should move to the access area located on the right. If the print carriage stays all the way left, reset the unit by unplugging the then plugging in the power cord. If the carriage still does not move to the right, continue with the steps below.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the all-in-one.
  3. Remove both print cartridges.
  4. Push the print carriage slightly to the left and then to the right to verify that the print carriage is not jammed. If the print carriage will not move, check for obstructions under and around the carriage.
  5. Close the print cartridge access door.
  6. Plug in the power cord.
  7. When the " Insert Print Cartridges " message displays, open the print cartridge access door and insert the print cartridges. Verify that both cartridges are seated correctly and lock into position.
  8. If the error recurs, contact HP for assistance.
Envelopes The envelope flap can move with the grip of the rollers and cause paper feed problems. Use envelopes with a rectangular flap and/or tuck the flap inside the envelope when printing. The print is skewed or crooked A small amount of skewing is not unusual with printers. When there is too much skewing, the following steps can help reduce the amount.
  1. Adjust the paper width guide to fit against the edges of the paper stack.
  2. Verify that the rear access door is properly seated and locked into position.
  3. Remove the rear access door and clean the paper feed rollers (see the instructions at the bottom of this document).
More than one sheet of paper feeds in at the same time Several paper caused problems can result in more than one page feeding into the unit. Check the list below:
  • Reused paper (paper already printed on one side)
  • Torn or folded paper
  • Textured or coated paper
  • Unsupported specialty paper
To determine if the paper is causing problems, try using clean, undamaged sheets of plain white 70 - 90 g/m2 (20 - 24 pound) inkjet paper, such as HP Multipurpose or Bright White paper. If this paper feeds correctly, the problem is probably with the other paper. Cleaning the paper feed rollers Over time dust and paper fibers will accumulate on the paper feed rollers. This can cause paper feed problems. Follow the steps below to clean the rollers: Figure 3: Paper feed rollers c00212278.jpg
  1. Turn off the all-in-one and unplug the power cord.
  2. Remove the rear access door (as describe above in this document).
  3. Clean each roller using a clean lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water (distilled water preferred). Rotate the rollers to clean the entire surface.
  4. Verify that the paper feed rollers on the rear access door are clean and rotate easily.
  5. Re-seat the rear access door.
  6. Plug in the power cord and turn on the all-in-one.

HP PSC 2355 all-in-one printer not scanning

I have one that is a printer, scanner, and copier.

I'm normally able to scan things perfectly, but a few times, like right now, it won't let me.

It say on the top "No Scan Options" when I press Scan To.. or START SCAN, and gives info that "You need to install or run HP software for this feature".

I may not fully know what this means, but my computer and printer are plugged in, and I do not know what to install or run.

It can't be something I haven't installed either, as I've already had it a few years.

What is wrong with it? Thanks. (:

You need to start the HP software that's installed on your PC.

In Win XP, go to Start menu, look down the list of installed programs, and click on HP Director to start it up. Your scanner should work now, either from the scan buttons on the printer, or from the scan options within HP Director.

The error is indicative of a hardware error.
Remove the power cord, hold # + 6 (semi-full reset) or # + 9 (full reset) buttons, then connect the power cord again, wait 3 secs (or until "Initializing Full Reset" appears on the printer display) and release the buttons.
This will set the printer configurations to its factory defaults.
Reset: Press the * and # buttons (simultaneously), followed by 1 , 2 , and then 3
Underware menu: Press the * and # buttons (simultaneously), followed by 1 , 2 , and then 4
Clear and reset NVM RAM: Press and hold OK and Cancel while plugging in the power cord.
If none of those work, it will need to be returned to HP as a failed unit.
