Get shadowed or double images.
You may need to try running a couple of calibration sequences on this printer before it will print properly. Try putting the old cartridge in, if it prints ok then you know that they new cartridge is defective and you can ge it replaced. Defective cartridges do happen.

Faded Colors
This is actually a pretty common error with this range. I have put together a brief article giving more information and linking to some pretty detailed guides
here.I can't take credit for the guide myself sadly, but can vouch for its quality.

Magenta print out very light
This is caused by dust in the scanner assembly. There's a fan right by the magenta laser scanner that blows dust and particulate matter in the air directly on that laser scanner.
Requiring its removal and careful cleaning of all lenses and mirrors. Unfortunately, this is not covered in the service manual. Getting the laser/scanner out is not too bad: Start by removing the printer covers, the rear plate, and the plate on which the DC controller and formatter mount. Remove the four laser/scanner unit corner screws and the single screw for its cover. Be careful to remove the small shutter spring on the cover before removing the cover. Use a strong flashlight to carefully examine the copper-colored mirrors for dust. Use dry cotton swabs to carefully clean all dust from the mirrors and the lenses. Blow dirt and dust from the inside of the scanner box. You will notice that the bottom mirror, facing up, is the one with the most dust.
