It is not likely that there will be driver support for Windows 7.

That scanner is not even on Microsoft's compatibility list for Windows 7 and is listed as unknown on the compatibility list for Windows Vista

There was no driver support for Windows Vista listed on HP support page as well so it is unlikely HP will develop and Windows 7 driver.

Unfortunately, there is no driver update from HP for the new operating systems (Like Windows Vista, Windows 7), I've attached the driver download link for Windows Xp below, if in case your Operating System is other than Xp, you have to wait of contact the vendors, hopefully they will provide you some alternative.

Recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the software and drives.

Make sure that the scanner is not connected to the pc until the software directs you to.

Download the file above > unplug your scanner > install the file above > reboot your computer (if needed) > login into your account > plug the scanner into your usb port > it should automatically detect your scanner > goto device manager > imaging device > right click HP Scan Jet .... > Click on Driver Tab > Click on Roll Back Driver > choose to run the driver on windows xp compatibility mode.

Or use the compatibility wizard to set scanjet pro to run on windows xp compatibility mode

My old HP4200 scanner running on Windows 98 gave me a lot of trouble not initializing also. The easiest fix for me was to power up the unit a couple of minutes prior to plugging in the USB cord. This gave the lamp time to warm up and then the unit would (home out) or synchronize when the PC found the scanner. Also if I recall, HP had a driver update for that model. Hope this helps.

I have read it myself & this should help fix your problem of stripes on each side of scanned image. ( the color will vary ).
