Reset Ram?

By default your RAM should reset every time you restart your computer and all of the memory should return to the system. If this is not the case I suggest defragmenting your ram.

If you are using windows Vista I suggest inserting your OS DVD into the drive, rebooting, and running the memory diagnostic tool.

If you are not running Vista you will have to download a program such as RAM Def 2.6 Xtreme to defragment the memory for you.

Compaq 1420 nx turns on then turns off immediately

A brief primer if I may;Electrolytic Capacitors are used on the motherboard, and in the Power Supply, in the Compaq Presario 1420nx Desktop PC;HP Support > Compaq Presario SR1420nx Desktop PC > Main Support page,http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=457247&Product information > Product specifications > Motherboard Specifications, P4GV-LA (Guppy),http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00363478&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=457247Scroll down to the motherboard Photo.http://capacitorlab.com/visible-failures/index.htmGeneral example of a Switched-Mode Power Supply, (SMPS), case open,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:ATX_power_supply_interior-1000px_transparent.pngPersonal computers have used this style of Power Supply, for quite some time. The one in your computer is just an ATX style, and is the type used in MANY personal computers. (Not Small Form Factor, however)THIS IS NOT an invite to open your Power Supply, and attempt repair. The capacitors used are Radial Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors. The blue ones marked by the letter B, are high voltage. MAY have Up To 100 Volts stored.Your fingers touch the terminals on the bottom, of one of these babies; the shock can be BAD to FATAL!Your fingers touch a circuit, that one or more capacitors are in, and the shock can be BAD to FATAL.There is a Proper method to discharge them, BEFORE working on the unit. Am not going to post. (Does NOT involve a metal screwdriver, or other metallic object! Good way to have hot molten metal spray in your face!)The method of repair is to REPLACE.Inside an Electrolytic Capacitor is Electrolytic Paste. This paste breaks down over time. Chemical composition breaks down.Computer engineers know this, and use capacitors that are rated at twice, or 200 percent; of what is needed. This way when the capacitor breaks down to 50 percent good, it is still 100 percent good for the application it is used in.Unplug an electronic unit from power, and the chemical composition of the paste breaks down more rapidly. All electronic units need a trickle charge when being stored. (Pawn shops know this)To summarize;FOLLOW Anti-Static Precautions after unplugging your computer from power, BEFORE reaching inside your computer. (Don't know, and would like to? Post in a Comment)Check the 'caps' on the motherboard.Note* Sometimes the Electrolytic Paste dries up, and shows NO outward visual signs of failure.'Caps' on motherboard found to be good, suspect the Power Supply.I can guide you in testing it, or you may have a KNOWN to be good, Compatible power supply, from a working computer that you can borrow for a test unit.Regards, joecoolvette

Compaq presario sr1420nx turns on makes one beep then resets in continual pattern doesnt get to boot up

To go with my other solution to you;You press the Power On Button. This in turn presses the Power On switch, located inside the plastic assembly; of the Power On Button. When the Power Supply is connected to power (Plugged in), there is always a constant 5 Volts present. (DC Voltage)This is the 5 Volt Standby power.Pressing the Momentary Contact Switch, the Power On switch; closes a circuit, momentarily. The Soft Power On circuit. This 'excites' the Power Supply, and turns it on.(Sounds like the start of a steamy novel)The first chipset to receive power is the BIOS chipset. The Basic Input/Output System is activated. (BIOS program)BIOS looks to see what devices are connected, DOES a Ram Memory count, and turns the Processor on.Then BIOS hands the computer over to the Operating System.(Windows)ONE beep indicates BIOS has done a Ram Memory test, and everything is OK.Now next we have BIOS turning the Processor on.Then handing the computer over to the O/S.Due to what is going on, as stated in my other solution to you; the Processor is turned on, BIOS goes for the boot files on the harddrive; then power problems develop from the bad capacitors; and BIOS turns the Processor off.Just about had time to access boot files; but now the Processor is turned off, ('Brain'), and boot files on harddrive couldn't be accessed. Now here we go again; with the weakened capacitors trying to do their job.Cycle starts all over again, but weakened capacitors 'drop to their knees', and Processor turns off.Over, and over; until capacitors fail all the way, and Nothing happens.Regards, joecoolvette[ !O_O! Martha I think the boy's done lost his mind! lol! ]

Compaq presario sr1420nx wont boot up keeps turning on and off resetting rapidly how to open computer..when it did turn on was getting unmountable boot volume error had it fixed at geek squad once and

Turning on, and off sounds like bad capacitors on the motherboard.I don't believe the members of the organization you took it to; have the savvy to repair. (Frankly I don't think they could pour P out of a boot..................Wait!...............Did I say that out loud?) This is what it states from Microsoft for 'Unmountable boot volume',http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555302The jist is the Harddrive cannot be reached - Bad IDE ribbon cableThe Windows files are corrupted - Use Restoration DiskBIOS Settings are set wrong.I'm going to state something different. May be putting my neck out...Capacitors on the motherboard. To be specific the ones used on your motherboard are Electrolytic Capacitors.More specifically; Radial Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitorshttp://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00363478&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&product=457247#N394An Electrolytic Capacitor has Electrolytic paste inside. When the capacitor starts to fail, it's because the paste has developed a gas inside. Hydrogen Gas. The gas expands, and pops the seals of the capacitor open.So much paste loss, and the capacitor operates at a weakened state.Too much paste loss, and the capacitor fails.Capacitors are used as Voltage Regulators, and Filters. The ones used as Voltage Regulators, are in the Motherboard Voltage Regulator Circuit,http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/616Part of what the motherboard voltage regulator circuit does; is to regulate voltage for the Processor. The Processor MUST have a steady, 'clean', supply of voltage; and it MUST be kept within the small tolerance range, for the Processor.Cannot be too much, or too little; or BIOS will turn the Processor off.The Processor is the 'Brain' of the computer.Guess what happens if it turns off, turns on, turns off, etc?I think what you are seeing.Cannot access boot files on the harddrive. No processor.Suggest;Computer off, and unplugged from power.FOLLOW Anti-Static Precautions.Anti-Static PrecautionsYour body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit), the delicate hardware components inside a computer.Relieve your body of Static BEFORE reaching inside your computer.Computer ON a table, computer unplugged from power, computer case open;TOUCH an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of the open computer case. This action will relieve your body of Static.IF you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, be SURE to Touch the metal frame again, upon your return. There are going to be cables (Wires), in the way. You can gently move them aside to look at the capacitors. L@@K close. May need a bright light, and magnification. Capacitors look good, I'm full of beans?OK. Onward through the fog.Replace the IDE ribbon cable going TO the harddrive. Test the Power Supply, or see if you can borrow a KNOWN to be good, Compatible power supply; from a working computer for a test.I think capacitors, therefore motherboard replacement. Not advertising for seller, nor website. Compaq presario sr1420nx wont turn on fan keeps going on an off as well as green light

Test your PSU power supply unit or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/f/powersupplytest.htm

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle of restarting or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive power and data cables IDE SATA

the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty make sure all leads that are attached to your dvd\cd floppy drives have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty computers need power and data to travel through every working device to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error even something as small as a faulty electrical or fan lead can cause you problems

motherboard and a Hard Drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail.

Check all electrical power input and extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd floppy drives need to have current go through make sure these drives are working

also check the Cmos battery and computer RAM modules make sure they are securely seated with no dust built up or in the sockets on some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in. Check you CPU central processing unit make sure its securely seated and has thermal paste it might be getting to hot the thermal paste will help disperse the heat Thermal compound is a sticky paste that is placed directly onto the CPU.

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Thermal-Compound-Roundup-February-2012/1490 Allowing for a more direct heat transfer between the CPU and HEAT SINK and preventing air gaps from forming between the CPU and heat sink. Hope this helps.

The DVD RW/CD-RW'S DRIVER is not working

CHeck the Device Manager. Does the CD/DVD Drive show up in Device manager, and when you right click it and choose properties, does it give any error code, like Error code 39?

Normally the CD drives use the default Windows drivers. Try right clicking the HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA T50N ATA Device in Device Manager and choose uninstall. Then reboot the computer and Windows will find the device and re-install drivers automatically.

If you are still getting the error, it may be an update or some other program that added data to the DVD's driver data in the registry. Try this:

1) Close all open programs

2) Click on Start, Run, and type "regedit" (without the quotations) and press Enter. Back up (File > Export) the registry before you make any changes)

3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  • SYSTEM
  • CurrentControlSet
  • Control
  • Class
  • Left Click and Highlight: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} **Make sure you choose this exact key**
4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

  • UpperFilters
  • LowerFilters
  • UpperFilters.bak
  • LowerFilters.bak
5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed on the right hand side, right-click on them and choose Delete

6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor

7) Reboot your computer

8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

What's the maximum hard drive

The BIOS has a max. hard drive size limitation. Check the manual for the maximum size the motherboard can support.
If the maximum size hard disk it can support then you can add a second hard drive in the computer as a SLAVE hard drive to double your disk space capacity.
