Sounds like you lost your drivers..reinstall Windows drivers and operating software as well if needed

Hi Bob.You will have to take the side panel off the computer and check that the power cable is connected to the DVD/RW, if it is and you have no LED indicators or the tray won't open it is a strong possibility that that the drive itself has failed and you will need to replace it with a new one. Optical drives are very cheap these days not costing much over 20 dollars or 10 pounds. DVD optical drives are plug and play so the operating system will already have the drivers preinstalled.Regards.

If you have the speaker/headset connected to the right port and still don't have any sound. It may be the sound driver. What you can do is to download and install the sound driver for your computer. I'm not sure what is the operating system of the computer that you have.

Access the Recovery Console and extract a new copy of the Kernel32.dll file from the original WinXP CD
1. Start recovery console as described above
2. Insert the WinXP CD
3. At the command prompt, type CD system32, press ENTER
4. Type ren kernel32.dll kernel32.old, press ENTER
5. Type map, press ENTER
6. Go to the drive that contains your CD
7. Type expand drive\i386\kernel32.dl_, press ENTER; Kernel32.dll should be listed as 1 file expanded
8. Type exit, the computer restarts
9. Remove the WinXP CD

Do you have wireless on your desktop? Also, it might be a PCI card (meaning no real switch) if you have wireless on your PC.

If this is not the solution you are looking, write back.

reinstall your PC's sound drivers using the drivers disk which came with the PC.
Alternatively, go to the HP website and use their automatic update service to update and reinstall your sound drivers. www.hp.com/support

If reinstalling the sound drivers fails, you may have a logic fault with your sound system, take the PC to a professional for this as this is part of the mainboard.

Stop turning it on and take to repair center you might damage more of the components and loose data

yes you are right. i believed problem is monitor, the display vertical 7pins IC some of pins is weak, need to resudder by reheating using solder iron. and second, try replace video card.

There may be no problem here. Has it always done this? Usually when executing some major tasks the CPU gets hotter and sends a signal that it requires the fans to work harder to keep from overheating. This may be normal.

old PCs do that, for many reasons. but no PC told at all just HP. 40 years of PCs ,10000 + models nobody can guess ever. but I do have the answer, in pure generic form. did you buy the PC like that used and bad Wifi. ?

1. the wifi card is missing, as was super common 10+ years ago.
2. someone put in the wrong card, not from HP list
3. HP blacklists (bios blocks) none HP cards (wifi)
4. the card needs a driver to work if not it is dead or 1/2 dead.
5. the PC needs 1 more driver to make the wifi buttons all work , all buttons related, if not they are dead or act odd.
6. The OS is infected, no OS told at all, not one clue nor if upgraded the OS, and not vast drivers are wrong or missing, (classic)

Im sure this this is not the free w10 upgrade, if it was that too kills drivers dead, for sure HP told you this unstated PC will not run W10 and has zero support from HP, on w10 AS YOUR SUPPORT PAGE WILL DISCLOSE TO YOU AT HP.COM

bad news now your bricked it just like miillions did google bios update bricked my PC and cry. why are you here and not at HP.com only they can recover bios. they changed the rules now 10 time. so only they know this, and are pain to deal with. UEFI is the enemy here, new rule and regressive as can be. in fact all new PCs can not be regressed, and some old now they even delete the 20 version of bios there, to force that. not saying they did that to your PC, but keep that in your head on all HP PC. the last bios upgrade stated, no going back. the Cntrl_+B might work , the flashback bios trick\ in your manual if you read it.

nobody can we erase all and reload the OS fresh. did not say you can not try but that 99 out 100 will fail.
