That means the laptop is not recognizing that it has a hard drive installed. The settings may have gotten messed up in BIOS regarding boot order as well. Given that model initially shipped with XP, I would say the hard drive is old enough that it could have failed.

if you're using Vista, you can right click on your desktop and choose personalize then choose Desktop Background. at the bottom part of the Desktop Background page you will see options on how you want the picture to be seen. choose the first one, which is Fit to screen, if you want the picture to be seen in the whole screen.

you should change device boot order or press the appropriate button (commonly F10) during POST (when laptop starts to initialy work, it writes which button the first 5seconds that it starts to work) and then you will see a box that shows all the availiable devices to try to boot from. All computers and laptops can boot from any internal or usb if these devices work properly and have a proper image to boot from.

What may have happened is the spray entered the laptop as you suspect and shorted some components. More likely is the LCD toggled to the external monitor. There is a three state toggle for most laptops the toggle is done by holding the Fn key and taping another key such as F5. It may be different with your laptop. The beginning state is LCD only, External monitor only and then both. I try to keep laptop in the both state to reduce confusion and it doesn't require any more power.
Another possibility is shorting of the LCD cable. This would could cause no display video, but would more likely show no video at all.
You should always allow the laptop to completely dry, usually over night, before powering it back on after cleaning of this sort.

If your fan is very loud, and works all the time, then probably you'll need to clean up your laptop from the inside. On average it only takes 3 months for any laptop to gather enough dirt so the CPU heatsing gets totally clogged and this causes the fan to work all the time, and in extreme cases your laptop even turns off so it protects the CPU from the excess heat.

Well I have a Vaio
For that you need to reset bios to defaults .
When you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or del or ALt+F2 key to enter in bios.
then go to exit menu and reset all settings to defaults.
Then save settings and exit.
Also disable SATA and make sure harddrive is recognized in bios.,
If still same then you need to reconnect RAM .memory.
It is on back side of laptop open it's cover and reconnect it into it's position.

It is problem with the boot sector. There is a bad sector in the MBR. Whatever you do will not be a solution to remedy this problem. First of all you need to take a test of the primary hard drive. If it passes the test, backup all your data using a linux LIVE CD and then format the whole drive (all partitions) to ntfs using a Vista installer dvd. Re-install XP into the first partition of the drive. This will fix the problem parmanently.

This could be a sign that your laptop is overheating. If you touch the laptop while it is running & you find it too hot, make sure that the fan is running properly & that the air ways are not blocked.
You can blow compressed air into the cooling vents of the fan. If you notice clouds of dust coming out, then it might be a good idea to disassemble the laptop, clean the fan & air ways, & reassemble it back. If the fan has failed & is no longer running, it might need to be replaced.
How to adjust the brightness on my sony vaio
To adjust the brightness control, press Fn +
F5 and release, plus the RIGHT ARROW or LEFT
ARROW keys to increase or decrease the value.
On most notebook computers you can use the Fn+F5
keys to lower the screen brightness level, and the Fn+F6 keys to raise the screen brightness level.

Hi. You could try updating the driver for your Optical Drive and Deleting the Upper and lower filters by accessing the registry tool. follow this:
1. go to start search or RUN if you're using XP then type in there regedit then press enter
2. go to this folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3. Look for Upper and Lower Filter files then delete them by doing a right click then delete. sometimes you could only find one of them but its fine, after deleting those files you should restart your computer
if this doesnt work, you should consider replacing the Optical Drive Already because maybe this already a hardware issue. or if it a hardware issue you could try cleaning the optical lens with cotton buds.
