My memory upgrade from 500 mg to 1 gig resulted in
Hi there.
The reason it's only showing 736MB is because the graphics memory is shared so it steals 256MB from the system memory.
If you want a little more system memory you have to reboot the computer, enter the BIOS (press F2 on start-up) and set the shared video memory to 64 or 128MB save the changes and exit the BIOS, you will then notice when you boot into the OS your system memory will be slightly higher.
Thanks for choosing FixYa!!

Device Manager found a problem with the driver and can not be fixed automatically. Need to download the Integrated CD-RW/DVD Combo Driver.
If the drive is showing an error (or is missing) in device manager, do the following:
Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click O.K)
Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor.
Hope this helps

Won't boot-up
dear, your operating system has been crashed.
this problem is occured when windows install another drive (beside C)and user accidently formate the hard drive in which you install.
or another method ...........
sometimes boot order has been changed and problem occured.
once you check the boot order from motherboard setting.
you set the BOOT order as:
first boot from hard disk
second boot from floppy
third boot from cd rom.
i think you solve this problem easily.

RAM only shows that I have 384MB of ram
Does bios see the amount of ram that you are putting in? Press F2 when powering up and check to see if the bios is indicating ram amount as what you installed! Let me know what happens.

"W", "D", and "C" keys no longer function.
tihs can be fixed. you'll need to buy another keyboard either on eBay or Sony - or a reseller. They are about $30 each - and are relatively simple to replace.
As for upgrading the ram - if that's on a laptop, chances are you don't need matching pairs.

I cannot get to the bios of my sony pcg-k23 laptop
How are you trying to access the bios?
Try pressing ESC when the computer starts
If not try, F1, F2, etc etc
Sometimes it's the DEL key
and sometimes it's Shift + ESC or another combo. Usually it will tell you on the screen.
Let me know if you're stuck and I'll see if I can find a for sure method.
Best of luck!

Lines on screen
The cable that plugs your monitor into your laptop may have come loose. Follow the link below and follow the directions and see if it gets you anywhere. First try to hook up a second monitor. when you plug in the monitor you will have to press Fn + F4 or something along those lines to get the display on both screens. If the lines show up on the second display then it is the computer that is messed up and you will have to replace it or take it to a pro to have this fixed.

When the Sony Vaio laptop is powered up there are missing(dark)
Connect an external monitor to the video connector on the laptop and bootup the laptop. If you don't get an image on the external monitor then press the blue Fn key plus the one of the function keys with the screen/monitor symbol, (this toggles the display between the LCD and external video connector).
If you cannot get an image then the you have a faulty video card. The video card is part of the motherboard and cannot be fixed, you have to get a replacement motherboard.
When you boot up without the external monitor and you look at the LCD from an acute angle and you can see a slight and dark image, this indicates you have a backlight problem.
The image on the external monitor indicates that you have a faulty inverter that provides power for the backlight panel or a faulty backlight panel, the inverter and the LCD panel can be replaced fairly easily but it is not cheap, but it would be cheaper that buying a new laptop.
If the external monitor works and you can use it this way, this would be the cheapest option, but it would not be portable.
