Questionable UPDATE install on PC
Not sure what the update could be, but to very its not a virus, try this FREE online tool. It is EXTREMELY good and removes viruses and malware that even Norton cannot. Remember to do a full system scan. May take a while, but is well worth it:

Sony vaio desktop recovery desk
You will have to get the "full recovery" install discs. The recover disc only restores the system if the hard drive is te original factory installed and has not been formatted.

I would lke to buy a larger monitor to watch
it depends on the connections you have coming out of your video card. Most large monitors come with both a DVI and VGA port, so you should be able to attach them to any computer.

Disk boot failure, but i can't find my disk?
Hi,
There aren't alot of solutions for these kind of problems, but it could be caused by a disk failure, due to use, age, failure in general, a problem with your motherboard perhaps, but whatso ever, it might be the best and safest to contact your local tecnician and have him check your pc for whatever failure occurs inside...
Hope this is useful, and greetings,
Olivier.

It doesn't boot up
Shoot it... Or give a little more information... ^.^.
USUALLY, this is power supply related. If a PS is not working, or not working correctly, your machine will fail to start. If you hear fans and see yellow lights, but no green lights, that usually means the Power supply's CPU-power is not working within acceptable limits. If there are no lights and fans whatsoever, that usually means the ps is toast. But, just to be sure, make certain that the little red switch on the back is set to 115 instead of 230.
If you see a start-up screen (something that says SONY or VIAO when you turn it on) that means that you could have a faulty hard drive, or faulty memory. Your best option is call Sony or let a pc tech give it a look-see. Without more information, I can only make general suggestions.
If you DO decide to shoot it, make sure you do it ONLY during computer-hunting season, and make sure you have a license to hunt computers. ^.^

Location of the hard drive
Hi,
Turn the desktop round so the back of it is facing you.
Remove the screws that are on the bottom left and right, and in the top middle and remove the outer casing by sliding the case towards you.
Once the outer cover is removed face the case so you can see the motherboard.
The hard drive is located behind the front panel of the case underneath the CD/DVD drives.
It should be laid on its side with cables coming from it.
As far as i know the hard drive bay will just slide out but there may be holding screws.
Regards.

VGC-VA1 battery repacement
There will be a battery on the motherboard. It will look like a watch battery about the size of a quarter. It should pop out easy.
Is your computer not even loading the manufacturer's screen?

Thanks but I need help just getting online
It could be a difference configuration of the ethernet adapters on each machine.
Try this from each machine when connected to the cable.
(assumes Windows XP)
Click Start then All Programs then Accessories then Command Prompt A new window will open -- in that window type the following
ipconfig /all
If this works copy the following for each adapter (there may be more than one per machine)
Adapter
IP Address
Subnet Mask
Default Gateway
DNS Address(es) may be more than one
Put the answers in a comment to this problem and I will attempt to provide additional steps to resolve the issue.
one possibility --
If you loaded your DNS addresses into the laptop's adapter configuration and not into the desktop's laptop configuration that could be the issue.
There could be other issues the ipconfig answers should narrow down the problem so a specific solution can be given.
