Does not powerup
Computer does not boot up The problem maybe the RAM, it is faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact. Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you. Just like you sometimes need a mechanic to repair your car, sometimes you do need a technician to diagnose and identify the fault or faults on your computer. Not only does a good service technican have the experience to deal with this type of problem, they also have the equipment that allows them to look at things the average computer user can't see, and he has a collection of replacement parts that can be used to quickly test individual components on your computer.

Forgot bios password
How to Bypass or Remove aBIOS Password
NOTE: Do not try to guess the password on a passworded Hard Drive. 3 wrongguesses will often result in the information on the hard drive being lostforever.
How to Bypass or Remove a BIOS Password by Removing theCMOS Battery:
The simplest way to remove a BIOS password is to simply remove the CMOSbattery. A computer will remember its settings and keep the time even when itis turned off and unplugged because these parts are powered by small batteryinside the computer called a CMOS battery. If we pull out this battery, thecomputer will forget a lot of its hardware settings, including its BIOSpassword. This should not be performed on Laptops if you are not experiencedworking with laptop hardware.
Anyway, open up thecomputer case using a screw driver and locate the flat, circular and metallicCMOS battery. Some computers have this part standing upright.
Once you have located it,observe how the latches are holding it. There are many different ways to removea CMOS battery.
Make sure to power down thecomputer, unplug the power cables and unplug any USB devices if they arepowered. The computer must not be able to get power from anywhere for this towork. Take out the CMOS battery and wait 10 - 25 minutes before putting it backin. The reason for this wait is because the computer can still store power inits capacitors even though everything is unplugged. The waiting period allowsenough time for them to discharge.
Plug everything back in,power up the computer and enter the BIOS again. If everything went well thereshould be no more password. In some cases, if you get weird error messagesduring boot up now, you will need to go to "Load BIOS Defaults" in BIOS andsave the changes to fix them.
My 1690 don't start black
There could be a couple of reason why laptop didn't start-up. Basic: the battery is dead and need to be recharged. Possibly the battery isn't keeping charge and the AC power charge is un-plug from the wall. Leaving the laptop without power. Make sure everything is plugged in and try to power it up. It that doesn't work then it could be the power supply in the laptop it self. Good Luck!!!
I have a aspire 1690
Keep

and try to switch on the laptop, if its not switched on , problem with battrey, change
the laptop battrey and check it.
Have reached the limits for my hard drive Can I
Yes you could, but check your specificaion to see what the maximum size hard drive the BIOS in your laptop can support.
By installing a new hard drive, you need to install Windows on this hard drive, together with the Acer Aspire's device drivers, your programs and your data. This is a lot of work and time.
If it was me I would add an external USB hard drive and copy my data to this external hard drive.
The advantages of this method besides not having to re-build your laptop, you can exchange data between computers without the need to take along your laptop, you only need to take your external USB hard drive.
