There's 2 plastic clips that hold the top of the front cover to the metal, about 2-3 inches from the outside, on each side. Pull away the bottom several inches and push down on the metal while pulling on the plastic.

The air filter should just pull out from the left side of the air conditioner when you look at it from the front. Often that is a sign it is low on refrigerant. It can also be due to low air flow due to either a dirty filter or dirt obstructing the fins (coils) behind the filter.

On a Haier Split system a E7 error is a failure of the outdoor inverter PCB and the outdoor power supply PCB. Both will need replacing. Looking around $600 for those parts. Plus fitting. The indoor PCB is very unlikely to be needed.

Window units do not come with service ports. You can buy them at local parts houses, but unless you have the freon, not gonna do you any good. Window ac use either r22 our 410a, and that cannot be bout without being certified.

Having the same issue, it's a shame the only answer is telling you to do what you clearly said you had already tried.

Take it back and get another one. Once you try to work on it, void the warranty.
