Actually you can simply transfer the pictures from your camera to your computer using the USB cable and without any software/s required. (since you didn't mention the Camera Model, I am not sure whether you could follow me or not, but I do hope that you'll be able to at least get some idea )
To do this, follow the steps:
First connect the USB cable to the Camera, and then plug in the other end of the usb cable to the computer's USB port. Now turn On the camera, wait for few seconds and watch on the desktop, you will see something like this (in windows xp, and similar boxes on windows vista and 7, etc..) :
This is the
Autoplay, you can automatically transfer the contents of the memory card with the wizard or manually after the folder is opened ("
Open Folder to view files"). If you wish to follow the wizard, click the "Copy pictures to a folder on my computer" and follow the instructions with
Picture transfer wizard, by default, the pictures are transferred to the
My Pictures folder of the
My Document.
In some cases, you may not see this autoplay, if it doesn't, simply open
My Computer after the Camera is Turned On and check the drive/s. Usually most camera shows two drive (excluding the currently installed drives on your computer, like C: or D: etc..) on the My Computer folder, one for the memory card and another for built-in Camera memory. Once you open them, you'll be able to distinguish them, by memory or from the contents/pictures. Open the drive/s and browse inside the folder/s, then copy the picture/s you want to save on your computer and paste it/them onto your computer folder (anywhere, where you want to save..)
You'll be able to use them as your wallpaper or you can upload them on the Internet.
Note: 1. This is to be done with the battery installed on the Camera
2. Autoplay depends on the settings of the computer, it maybe pop up or may not be, so I've mentioned both the methods.
3. Be careful with the folder/drives on the My Computer, it's important to first note the existing Drives and do the task if you are not very familiar with these things.
There's another option, but since yours's an XD card, this is not so common. You can use a Card Reader to transfer the files/photos to you computer instead of transferring them from the camera via usb cable. If you wish to buy, you have to ask or look for a Card Reader which supports XD memory card. The process is more or less similar with that of transferring from the camera via usb, the only difference is, you need not to power on the card reader, simply insert the card on the slot and follow the onscreen instructions.
I hope you'll be able to follow my instructions, if you have problem or if you need further help, let me know.
Good luck.
