How do i open the cd drive?
There is a tiny hole on the face of the drawer that has the logo in it. You can straighten a paper clip and push it in and then push a little harder and the drawer will open.

My dvd-rw from my new laptop asus k50c not working
Windows XP
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
- In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
- In the right pane, click UpperFilters.
Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 7.
- On the Edit menu, click Delete.
- When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
- In the right pane, click LowerFilters.
Note If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content cannot help you any further. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.
- On the Edit menu, click Delete.
- When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
- Exit Registry Editor.
- Restart the computer.

DVD problem
Hi,
Let me figure out that problem, that usually happen when there is miss align of your dvd drive, that cannot read the optic in your dvd when you insert any disc. Have it check with repair man or technician.
Widows setup failure..
Greetings
It is not the cd that has a problem, its your hardisk if you have other hardisk try to exchange it and re-install your computer. or format your computer with other comupter.
Thanks
Cannor Read DVDs
I have a similar issue to you, except that my dvd drive will only recognize a disc if I have booted up into windows with it in the tray...once in windows it will still think it has the first disc in no matter what disc i insert. If i boot up with no disc then it will never read it unless I follow the steps below.
A solution I found by pure frustration and trying all sorts of things is to eject the DVD tray and leave it opened, then right click on the dvd drive in 'my computer' and select the 'hardware' tab...then select the drive and click 'properties'.
A new window should open. Select 'volumes' and click 'populate'. Now close the window and insert the disc you wish to read, close the tray and repeat this process. Windows should now recognize the disc you inserted
Alot of trouble I know, but it works for me. Hope this helps.
