First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

thats probably that you installed XP with a non valid serial number,try to get a valid onedid you use an original XP cd when you installed your XP?

If your trying to get on the internet with a wireless connection.and your running WINDOWS.and I am assuming you DO have a wireless router all set up and configured to broadcast the signal (not hidden) ....first we have to determine if the problem is at the router or at the laptop AND at what point its getting stuck ... so first try this

try resetting the router (unplug for a few minutes) try --be sure the wifi switch is enabled on the netbook---try---go to CONTROL PANEL>NETWORK CONNECTIONS--right click oin your wifi card and choose properties--highlight INTERNET PROTOCOL and choose properties and be sure "OPTAIN IP ADDRESS AUTOMATICALLY" is checked--Does the laptop "SEE" the router?

Turn the computer off.
Unplug the AC adapter.
Remove the battery.
Flip the computer upside-down.
Look at the various "bay" covers.
Under one of them will be a slot for RAM.
Take a screwdriver, and remove the cover.
You might either find existing RAM (one stick or two),
or you might find an empty slot.

Now, the difficult part is purchasing RAM that will be compatible with your "antique" (1997) laptop. I highly advise that you take the computer, the battery, and the power-supply to a computer-store, so that they can sell you "compatible" memory -- the "wrong" memory won't fit, or won't work, or will only add 1/4 or 1/2 the amount of RAM present on the stick.

In many cases you need to contact the manufacture here if its still under warranty. If not you going to need to dig into this laptop and short out the cmos battery to reset the BIOS password.

Now this is easier said then done and I understand that. But what needs to be done is the laptop needs to be opened and you need to reset the bios this is done by taking out or shorting out the cmos battery. If you do not know how to do this you would then need to take it to a tech locally to have it done. They would use something that goes into the usb port that resets the bios $65 bucks.

You can get Bart PE at www.tucows.com online and look it up it will allow you to start-you have no choice. You can start up windows to look at the drive, this is assuming you have Xp or XP professional. It will allow you to reformat the drive, do not format the partition that has the drivers in it unless you have to bart pe also has a disk repair on it to allow you to fix some of the most common problems on windowsxp.
