replacing the ink cartridge isn't going to help. The printheads for most, if not all, Canon printers are built into the printer itself. You can bet your last dollar/pound that the printhead is blocked up. There's actually guidance on how to clean the printhead(s) on the following page. I'm afraid I don't know how difficult they are to get at in Canon printers, but I do hope you're able to get it functioning OK again.
