If there is a LCD panel on the front there will be a maintenance mode for you printer if you find out which key presses you need to enter it then you will find the page count plus other info like no. of cartridges, you might have to go to a 3rd party dealer who specializes in printer repair as most companies like canon and brother can get hold of the service PDF's.

The common solution on this sight to this problem on any copier seemed to be simply clean the glass. I first cleaned the glass on the bed...no help. Then I lifted the feeder and discovered a portion of the glass under that as well. Once it was cleaned the lines disappeared!

I saved $$ on a useless service call for a simple, easy to fix problem thanks to this site!

I turn it off to clear the error. Wait about 10 seconds then switch back on & it should be cleared.

You can always open microsoft paint, click "file", and click "from scanner or camera".

This happens when the fuser is not reaching operating temperature, it is not getting hot enough.

The laser printer's fuser assembly is the most common component to cause problems and require repair. Paper dust and residual toner can accumulate, causing scratches on the roller, which creates unwanted marks on the print. Conversely, large scratches will allow areas of toner not to bake into the sheet. In these cases, the toner smears off the page after it comes out of the printer.
Additionally, the lamp can burn out and require replacement, and the thermostat can also fail and need to be replaced.

I called Canon support; this is a known issue, and the workaround that worked on Windows 7 x64 was to use Windows Fax
& Scan (Start > All Programs > Windows Fax & Scan.
