Getting message...waste in absorber almost full on
http://ezinearticles.com/?Canon-Ink-Absorber---How-To-Clean-It&id=880842
Firstly, it might be important to note that the waste ink absorber is a little pad that sits under the cartridge's "home" position and collects any loose ink that may be on the cartridge. This prevents smudges, so it's a good thing to have. Many ink jet printers have them, but as far as I know, only Canon PIXMA printers display an error when a certain internal counter suggests that the ink absorber may be full. If you've done a lot of printing, the ink absorber may actually be full and you might need to have it cleaned or replaced to ensure the best printing quality. However, if you haven't printed that much or you have and you just need to print something right this minute, there is a way to reset the counter and stop the error from showing up again. Until the counter reaches a certain unknown point, that is, in which case you'll have to repeat the procedure.

The thing that pulls the cartridges back n forth has come off.
hi yes it can be fixed, you need to take of a few covers and get it back down the carriage unit and put back on the belt.
its not that bad of a job prob worst is working out how the covers come off.
once they are off its a 5 minute job.

How do i shut off the colored ink and use only
You can't really "shut off" the color ink with this printer, but you can trick it. If you rarely or never print in color you can put in a full black cartridge and keep your empty color cartridge in the printer. As long as the electronics are still good on the color cartridge your printer will print and won't use any color. You can also set your printer properties to greyscale.

I just refilled the black cartridge, I left the
your problem is with your cartridges.. there are canon printers which can operate with only the colored cartridge is installed. in your case, the black cartridge is the one that i suspect that has a problem.. try to replace your black cartridge. Hope to be of help.
