Canon PIXMA iP4000 InkJet Photo Printer - Page 4 Questions & Answers
Pixma ip5000
I had identical prob with a PIXMA IP4000. Eventually solved by turning upside down removing bottom feeder tray and gaining access to the four rubber rollers which pick up the paper. I rubbed each one with light sandpaper to roughen up the rubber, turning each one by hand trying to try to abrade all the surface. It did the trick.
Won't print color
Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out and blocking the print head nozzles. If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive. It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.
Dear Randy, My printer is from 9/2005,
Hi Jack (your profile identified you as John),I'll do my best to help you resolve this problem. Here are three things to try:1. The PIXMA iP4000 InkJet Photo Printer is equipped with an auto shutoff that could cause the printer to "go dark" when it does not received data for a predefined period of time. Try sending a print job to the printer and see if it "wakes up" automatically.2. Trying various power sources is a good idea, but it is also possible that the power cord could be damaged or not fully connected to the printer end of the cord. If possible, try the cord on another piece of equipment with the same voltage/electrical requirements to see if the cord is ok. Also, if possible, try another cord on the printer.3. Try removing the power for 10 minutes so that the printer can reset. If neither of these solutions help, please let me know. Your printer could need servicing.I hope this helps,Randy
Orange flashing 3 times
This is a paper jam error. check for any paper jammed in the printer, switch it off and open all trays, sheet feeders, duplex unit to check for any paper. if paper was jammed previously and was torn, there might be a piece of paper still stuck in it.
hope this helps!

How to receive fax documents
You cannot receive fax using this printer, because this printer doesn't support fax sending/receiving. Only fax supported printers can receive fax documents. You will know if a printer is fax support if you see a Fax button there or if you can see a numpad buttons where you can dial numbers.
These are the photo examples of fax printers
Hope my solution helps. Thanks for using Fixya!
Canon iP4000. Magenta ran out
Hi Todd
I'm suprised you got it to work without the cartridge in it.
You'll probably find that you've burned out the magenta nozzles. The print head works by rapidly heating ink to squirt it out of the nozzle and the incoming ink cools it down prior to the next squirt. It's happening at a spectacular speed and if no cool ink is coming in the nozzles get hotter and hotter until they burn out.
Alternatively, they may just be clogged up with dried up residue. Remove the print head and run it under hot water for a while (take the inks out first). Dry it off. refit it and the inks and try again.
