Canoscan 5000f driver for windows 7
Canon knowingly disabled Windows 7 support for all of the old products in 2009. You need a pre-Vista CanoScan toolbox version 4.1.3.5, it will work fine in Windows 7. I uploaded a copy on my website rust.mine.nu.
USING ANY FUNCTION ON CANON 5000/5000F, GET
Hello... It appears that it's not an uncommon problem. One workaround would be to use the "Scaner and Camera Wizard" that comes with Windows. You can find it in XP in the start menu-accesories. In win7 you press the start button and type scanner, you will have a list of programs, documents and other files related to the scanner, use the first one it finds. The only draw back is that you won't be able to use some functions, can't tell you which as i don't have the device. What windows version are you using?

You may need ADOBE READER installed on your computer to read PDF documents. You can download this free at WWW.ADOBE.COM if necessary. Click on the DOWNLOAD ADOBE READER button on right side of the ADOBE home page when you get there, and then just follow the onscreen instructions to install it.
The scanner is fitted with a transport lock to prevent the scanning head from being damaged when the scanner is moved around.
See page 7 of the ONLINE USER'S MANUAL for detailed illustrations and instructions on HOW TO UNLOCK THE SCANNING UNIT.
Basically you just slide the locking switch, which is located by the right main hinge on the scanner bed, to the unlocked position.
Thank you very much and good luck.
It is asking for me
I have many years repairing Canon scanners and here is my suggestion to you.
If you are positive the lock switch is unlocked then I think what happened is the scanner inside the scanner is off its track an can not move. I would remove the glass on the top of your flat bed scanner to gain access to the scanner lens then I would try and move the scanner lens manually with the power off to the scanner. If it does move freely then I would think you have a bad scanner lens. If it doesnt move freely try and reposition the lens back on to its track. They some times jump off there track from shipping.
I hope this helps you out.
My canoscan 5000f does not
I have many years experience repairing Canon scanners so here is my suggestion for you.
My suggestion is this, I would google Canon Canoscan 500f drivers, just as I have written it to you. A page will pop up and download the latest drivers from Canon's official web site ( the drivers are dated). Before you install the drivers disconnect the cable from the scanner to the computer. Now install the drivers. Once they are installed reconnect the cable from the scanner to your computer with the scanner powered on. A window will pop up saying a new device or drivers are being installed.Once this is completed then reboot (restart) your computer and you should be able to scan again.
I hope this helps you out.
Option for scanning film doesn't appear in my source box
I was able to contact Canon via e-mail about the problem and they acutally responded! :)
Apparently all you have to do is disconnect and reconnect the scanner from the lid. Apparently, because the lid has its own scanning hardware and if your lid and scanner have become disconnected, the software won't give you the negative/positive options. Anyway, did the disconnect and connect thing and it worked!
Good luck

I am having the same problem. I believe it is a belt inside. How do I open the unit up? I can pry it open a little bit, but I don't want to crack the casing.
