How do you clear count on a 9080c?
Depressing the red STOP button for approximately 5 seconds should clear the counter displayed on the control panel. The Total scan count for the machine (located under "Control-Panel, Scanners & Cameras, Canon 9080, right click & select properties) can only be reset via the service diagnostic utility.
Lower reading unit broken?
Ensure you have selected Duplex option. Canon DR 9080C uses LED lights and hence the chances of failure of light source is fairly low. Try scanning in Color. The scan module, if required, can be replaced and is available in the market between $600 to $750. Please ensure that the module is faulty before replacing. (the upper and lower modules are interchangeable, except for a few plastic parts)S. Mohan, Chennai, India
Line down middle of scan
A line could be continuous scanning of dirt stuck to the glass or an error in the Sensor module. Please clean the glass thoroughly with Iso-propyl Alcohol. If the line has rough edges (varying thickness) it is definitely dirt on the glass.S. Mohan, Chennai, India

Sounds like the shading compensation strips may be dirty and/or sticking. Otherwise the scan sensor is going out.To check and clean the the shading compensation strips:Open the feeder up all the way and hold down the red stop button....in about 5 seconds the upper and lower shading compensation strips will pop up.They may be getting stuck and not popping out all the way (about 1/2")Clean them up with a small brush and a lint free rag with alcohol. If the shading sensor strips aren't popping out all the way, this will cause the problem you described, so clean them up and repeat this several times.(They pop up during the
document scanning process)If they still aren't popping out after cleaning them up, then there may be a mechanical problem with the mechanism.Hope this helps! You may need a tech. I am in Dallas, Texas if you are local to me I can put an eye on it.

At the bottom of the tray there is a sensor for checking "Home Position". When you power on the system initialises and the tray goes to the home position. Please check this sensor if it is dislocated or a piece of paper is blocking this optical sensor. Normally these sensors don't fail. Also clean the 'black dot' just under the rollers. There is a paper sensor under this and dust can prevent sensing the same. Even after this if you have noise, there could be hardware problem.

When I scan a document
Try scanning a few documents in full size mode (scannerrs maximum), If you observe a line in the same location in all images, you can conclude that there is either a scratch in the glass (due to stapler pins) or dirt stuck firmly. Try cleaning with Isopropyl alcohol. For absolute emergency, you can wet a cotton bud in after shave and clean the right spot, take care not to touch any other part other than the glass. If glass is scratched, you need to replace it.S. Mohan, Chennai, India

Please try USB connectivity instead of SCSI. It is lot easier and unlike SCSI, there is no sequencing required. (With SCSI, you need to start the device before you start the Computer). You can switch on the scanner when you want!

We have a Canon DR-9080C
The Canon DR 9080C is a 'contact' scanner. There is no optical lens, instead it uses a technology called "Contact Image Sensor' or CIS. The page to be scanned must be close to the glass for a proper image. This is achieved by a full-length rubber roller just above/below the scanning module. The roller is spring loaded and in case it gets stuck, there wont be enough pressure on the document to keep it close to the glass. ensure these rollers are moving smoothly and if required clean them. The rollers are on the opposite of the Scanning module.

Hi,

The scanner creates a Raster Image and if it is grey or color, the size is big. After a few images are scanned, the 'buffer' inside the scanner is full. It may take more time to process the scanned image by the scanner if it is 24 bit color. The image is sent to the computer Harddisk and if the disk is full or if it had not been defragged for a long time, the sectors may not be contiguous for speedy writing, This will slow up the scanning. Ensure the disk has large space. 'Scan ahead' slows down scanning speed. (Without scan ahead, the next page is fed only after processing, whereas when selected, just after the previous page is scanned, the scanner start the next one)
