Canon DR-2580C scanner only scanning half the page. What could be the problem?

Select Auto for page size. The scanning software displays scanned image in many options, including 'fit'. Choose 'fit' so that you see complete image. S. Mohan

Canon scanner whiting out one side of page

Hi, The Camera (CCD) would appear to be faulty. I service scanners and I have come accross this problem on this model twice. It was not worth replaceing the camera due to the low value of the scanner. Cost of part plus labour would be too high.John Phoenix, Dublin Ireland.

Canon DR-2580C scanner - green light just blinks.

I have many years of experience with Canon scanners and I think I may be able to help you with your problem.

On that particular model of scanner there is a micro switch to verify the top half of the scanner is closed. On the top half of the scanner the part that flips up you should see a peice of plastic towards the front protruding downward I belive on the right hand side towards the front of the top half but on the side of it. If its not there then it has broken off, if you can find it you can glue it back on with super glue. If that peice is there then look straight down on the same side of the scanner that peice is on you will see a small opening and you may see a small peice of silver metal. That is where the micro switch sits and the plastic peice on the top activates that switch. If the switch doesnt get activated then the green light blinking problem will occur. To replace that switch or adjust it you will need to remove the covers from the scanner the back cover first with I belive has 5 screws in the back. There is a tab on the bottom of the scaner that needs to released so you can remove the side cover, you will see a square hole towards the front of the scanner on the bottom. Use a very small screw driver to push the tab in to release the cover. Take your time doing all this because you will need to reassemble the scanner once you make the repairs to the micro switch. If you have any other questions let me know and I hope this helps you out with your problem.

Cannon dr-2580c it was not

I have many years experience repairing Canon scanners so here is my suggestion for you.

Can you see if the small grey roller on the top is turning when your trying to feed in a sheet of paper? If so then your problem is with one of the rollers in the back of the machine. If its not turning then you have either a belt tension problem or a bad pick up motor.

If the small grey roller is turning then lift up the top half of the scanner, another words open it up like there was a peice of paper jammed in it. With the power turned off to your scanner run your hand over the black rollers on the top they should all spin freely. The small black rollers are mounted on shaft and each row is on one shaft so those 4 or 5 shafts need to spin freely or the paper will not pass through the machine. If one of them is dragging or binding then there probably is gunk in one of the bronze rollers at the end of the shaft. If you can locate the bad shaft then you need to remove the silver plate that covers those shafts there are 2 or 3 phillips screws on each side of that silver plate (both sides) that need to be removed so you can have access to the bad bushing. Once you locate the bad roller and bushing to remove the bushing you push up on the spring clip that holds it in. There is a tab to push up on and then rock the bushing until it slides out of the machine. Once you have it in your hand clean out the gunk and use some white grease and then reinstall it back on the shaft and then reinstall the silver cover back on the machine the roller should spin freely now and your problem is corrected.

If its one of the lower rollers you probably will hear a metal on metal sound. If you try to spin these rollers by hand you will feel resistance since they are belt driven. If you push hard and they do all spin and you dont hear a metal sound like metal on metal or a squeeking sound your ok. If you do hear a metal on metal sound or a squeeking sound I would recommend you call your local Canon dealer for the repair only because taking the scanner apart is easy putting it back together again is a little tricky. I can explain how to do it to you but its time consuming on the reassembly.

I hope this helps you out with your problem.

Scaning only one side (

I have many years repairing Canon scanners so I hope my suggestions help you out.

The problem your having is a common one with your model of canon scanner. It can be one of several things.

First it can be as simple as running some diagnostic paper through your scanner to resize the image. A certified canon technican can do this for you.

Second it can be a loose connector to the photo lens on your scanner causing the cut off image your experiencing now.

Lastly it could be the photo lens itself an the lens has failed and needs to be replaced. If that is the case I would suggest you purchase a new scanner because it will be cheaper then the cost of the repair.

I hope this helps you out and if not let me know.

We have a Cannon DR2580C,

I would try and clean both sides of the glass.
If this does not help, probably time to either replace or look for a replacement lamp

The scanner pauses half way throught the document

May be the location where it is writing the data is not 'free'. Do a 'deframent' of the drive where you intend saving the data. Ensure there is enough space on the Hard Disk

Scanned images are scaled

the feed rollers likely have paper dust accumulation and are slipping .. you can clean them with special cleaning fluid or just water .. dont use alcohol since that can remove elastomers that give it traction ... since you have so many pages thru the machine then the rollers may be warn or hardened and need replacment ..

Won't scan to PDF with Capture Perfect 2.0; Error

There are two versions 2.0 and 2.3. One of them converts to PDF without PAFCV2.dll load error. Try and down load from http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0022439.asp?model= Incase this doesnot work, you need the other version.
I generally dont do direct conversion to PDF. I clean the images, create multipage and then convert to PDF and hence don't know which version works. I have both versions. Incase the downloaded version does not work, pls send a mail to [email protected] I shall send you a copy.

What do you recommend as a cleaner for the pick-up

if you can remove the rollers, then soap and warm water. If you can't remove them, then use a damp cloth. There is a rubber roller cleaner that printer techs use but I don't know how easy it would be to find. Do NOT use any alcohol based cleaners. They'll clean your roller but they'll also shorten the lifespan of the rubber a great deal.

Black at the bottom of scanned pages

There should not be a thick black line at the bottom, but could be from several things, light coming in from somewhere is my first guess, toner is almost out or the ribbon is getting stuck on the inside at that point. You may have to call Cannon and ask them.

Light flashes and it says the scanner door is open

More common reasons are paper jam, dust/dirt, or a faulty sensor.

So, check for even the smallest pieces of paper, especially in the scanner area, use compresser air if necessary and clean the scanner glass.

Your sensor could also be broken/faulty. Not certain if the sensor is a user-replaceable part.

Hope this helps.
