The ntoskrnl file (NT operating system kernel file) is one of the main Windows file. You can repair this file by inserting the Windows CD install disk and boot up with this CD. Follow the instructions to Install Windows but ignore the first Repair instruction (unless you have a repair disk sually a floppy disk) continue until you get a 2nd repair request, then select this repair.
Windows install will then copy the main files and overright the corrupted ones. (your data and programs should remain intact).
If you still have problems you most likely have to install Windows again.

Do you have a Windows CD that came with your computer? If so do you know how to boot from it by inserting it into the drive and then pressing F12 just after you switch on your PC? If you can do this then you could try the "repair" option from Windows Setup, this might fix your missing PC problem.

You hard drive is missing from the system. Or, just does not recognize it. The obvious - Remove any USB devices like drives and any media from disc player. Its trying to load, but can't find bootable hard drive, CD, or USB... Remove the hard drive and reseat (reconnect). Check BIOS by pressing an F key during boot. Look on the screen for correct Function key. Might be F2 or, Esc key. Verify BIOS recognizes the drive. It must be listed! There is no going forward if it's not. Check boot order and make internal hard drive first. Save and restart.

remember format results the lose of data permanently. put the windows xp disk and boot system from it, it lead to format drives. choose your drive to format and install windows.

to enter in setup, the options shows at the startup screen.

See if it still same if you use USB keyboard and mouse?
Try update BIOS from HP web.

get out your harddrive.get a abapter for the hard drive and get the important file the format it

Use the command prompt. Maximize the window size. Change directory to c:. You will have a line that fits 75 characters and a window that occupies about 2/3 of the whole window. That's enough fore all reasonable problems. If you are not happy with what you get, you may try developping your C++ program under Linux.
