Hello! I've been using my Compaq Presario (M2223AP) Laptop for 2 years now, then all of a sudden I saw 2 vertical lines on the screen. 1 line is a clear red line (but not so thick & dark) located about 1/3 from the left of the screen while the other is a very faint (thin, almost transparent) line located about 1/5 from the right of the screen. I think it might be a monitor problem. I'm not very good in fixing computers so I have not done anything about it yet. I'd appreciate your help very much. Thanks!
A VGA monitor is a monitor that uses a standard VGA connector to attach to your PC/laptop. A VGA connector is a small D shaped socket connector, about ½ inch long and ¼ inch wide. Its usually blue with three rows of holes (total of 15 holes) where pins from the mating connector match up with. The only other thing that may look like it is a serial port but that is easy to distinguish, it has two rows of pins for a total of 9. What 24 sever is suggesting you do is connect another monitor to see if the problem shows up there as well. I?ll be surprised if it does since usually this type of display problem on a laptop more often than not is due to a defective connection inside the laptop screen area. A quick test and perhaps even fix would be to grasp the right and left sides of your display while it is on (displaying the offensive lines) and gently twist like you were wringing out a towel. Again, and I emphasize, gently using only a couple of ounces of force. Watch to see if the lines disappear, get worse of make the screen flash or change. If you do then its likely cause is the connector from the LCD panel to the electronics has oxidation or a loose connection. If you?re lucky the flexing might even fix your problem, if not you will have to take it apart to find out exactly what is going on or take it to your local repair shop.

Today my hp laptop dv8000 decided to stop working. the right click works fine as well as the touchpad. The left click doesnt work at all and is loose. i took it into best buy and they couldnt figue it out. They said that I would probably have to replace the whole piece, touch pad and right/left clicks. Any suggestions on what it could be?
Also tonight it would work for maybe 15 seconds then stop working again.
Thanks,
Sarah

laptop screen is green what does that mean?
There could be a number of reasons as to why this is happening. First, if this is happening from the moment you turn it on, than you are looking at either a defective inverter or LCD pane (some inverters are integrated into the panel, others are separate replaceable parts starting at about $35). Secondly, if the screen goes green only once you are logged into your operating system, than you are more than likely looking at a corrupt graphics driver. Just go to the vendors site and download the latest driver for your make and model and install and that should resolve your problem. Lastly, if it is neither a driver or LCD/inverter problem than you are looking at a much more expensive repair option, the system board. Most graphics cards are soldered on to the system board and are not replaceable (except in higher end models), a new system board could run you as much as $800 (cheaper on eBay, but I would not trust their reliability). An LCD panel could cost you $350 and up. One way to determine if it is the system board or LCD is to plug an external monitor to your laptop, if you can duplicate the problem, than it is the onboard graphics (system board), if not LCD panel.

what is grub error 17? how to fix it?
Its GRand Unified Bootloader used in Linux OS.
Normally you get this error when GRUB is not able recognise the partition from which you are trying to boot the system. Make sure the boot partition on your system is recognisable by GRUB (such as EXT3).
You can try to restore the GRUB using the LIVE CD
Remove the Live CD and reboot the system.
Please let me know if you need any further assistance.
Thank you for choosing Fixya
