I need to know which port I should use to install an hp printer
Any available (Open) USB port.(This solution applies to your other stated problem, that apparently deals with this computer also)HOWEVER, there is a procedure that must be followed, when installing a printer for the first time, on that computer. The software MUST be installed first, THEN the printer is attached to the computer, (Computer off), and after Windows is running, the printer is turned on.If you attach the printer first, and THEN when Windows is running, load the software, you will get a driver conflict. When a device, (Printer in this case), is attached to a computer for the first time, Windows will 'break it's neck' to find suitable drivers for the device. If THE drivers are not there, Windows will match up one of it's thousands of generic drivers.Windows: "Which drivers do I use. These or THESE?"[ Driver: A small piece of software that allows the Operating System, to 'communicate with a device.Windows XP and Windows 7 are two examples of an O/S ]If this is what has transpired post back in a Comment. It could also be that the USB port you are plugging into is bad.Happens.Try a different one. What is the manufacturer name, and model number of the printer? How are you trying to install it?Regards, joecoolvette

I got an old compaq
no ...to get to bios ..even if it is an old model try to press f10 on start ..It is known that from all computer's manufacturers..the hp is the only one that uses this key instead of normal del key ..If you pay attention on start the key is indicated on screen ..By the way ..If it has a bios password just open it up ..and remove the bios battery from the motherboard and will clear the cmos settings to factory defaults..To reinstall it you will need a windows xp disk ..and make sure you set the boot order in bios to boot from the CD first ..and save using f10 key..Pay attention on what you are doing cause it may be strange ...it is an old model and has nothing logical in it ..Good luck ..you;ll need it ..!
I bought a wireless card for my Compaq Presario
The issue is that you have to install the card and its driver ..Look on that disk ..and see if it has a driver on it ..Run the driver and install teh card ..restart the computer ..and go to network places..In there look for teh wireless connection ..That will be the card you installed .click right on it ..and select either to see networks available ..or to enable first ..It should appear in the task bar in the working programs area in the right tray ..In there click right and see the available networks..identify your router and connect to it ..In short ..this is a device like any other ..and needs a driver . to work ..after that ..you have nothing to do with the other available connections in the computer but only with the card ..You need a wireless network available ..either a router connected with your ISP ..or another network you share ..with others or a free internet hot spot ..in the area..When the card is installed and working ..you have to access the networks from it by scanning for them ..
I have a compaq
to see how much memory you have on it ..just click on my computer right ..and select properties..It will display the CPU and the ram memory on the bottom of the window..If it is less than the one you know you installed ..and the difference is more than 32 or 64 M ..(it may be this difference cause the video card may use them and will not appear as usable for the OS ) If it is larger ..than that ..open it up and check the modules to be plugged correctly ..and even remove the bios battery to force the board to see all the memory ..Another thing you can do is to reinstall the operation system and force to see the memory ..In case you never done it when you upgraded ..( i think this is the case ...old computers always needed the reinstalling for to recognize ram on upgrade )
How can find my serial number if its not on my tower
Usually it should be on a sticker aside with a code bar ...This sticker should be on the left or right side ...but it may as well be on the back ...If there is non ..try to identify it from windows..if you are running windows vista or windows 7 ...Click on the Start button---the little Windows logo at the bottom left
of the computer---type "cmd" in the search field and then press "Enter."
A black box with white lettering will pop up. This is the command
prompt. In this box, type "wmic bios get serial number" and press
"Enter." The computer's serial number will appear in the box .
No wireless
I see.. Just go to the manufacturer's page ..select teh model and download all drivers for this model and windows 7 ..usually if they are not there you can use the vista drivers but select them in the properties to run in compatibility with visa if they make issues..About the programs ..it probably was a human error ..cause you do not payed attention on the selections made when you installed it ..You should specified to keep files and programs if possible ..and if you did and it made this ..it means it was no other way ..Anyway ..there are alternatives for the programs in windows 7 ..and the drivers need to be installed manually ..The other programs too ..just download them and install ..cause the usual ones like players and so ..are freeware ..if you use HP ..like it is said here ...the link will get you to the support site ..

After powering on monitor says no sync
I've almost the same problem. When the system turns on the monitor doesn't sync. After a variable trials with down/up the sync is enabled and the computer starts.A very clear event occurs : when the monitor can''t sync ( and system doesn't boot)you can hear very clear a high fan rotation. When I look/hear in the system the Isuspect the cpu fan. The system boots ( monitor syncs) when the fan rotationgoes from high to low. So the system hangs on an internal check on the rotation speed of the cpu fan.I've googled a lot , but until now doesn't find an answer . Possibilties which I think about : replace cpu fan , clean cpu fun ( but it looks clean).I cannot measure the fan rotation speed when the system is hanging. At normal rotation all info can retrieved witth the program cpu-z.Did you already have a solution ?
