Depends on the type of gasket. Not a good idea to lubricate gaskets generally. Rubber or cork gaskets that are lubricated tend to be squeezed out of the joint instead of being compressed. Sometimes it is a good idea to bond such a gasket to one face with something like a latex adhesive. Rubber gaskets that fit into a groove can be lubricated because there is no chance of them being squeezed out of the joint. I tend to use a wetting smear of silicone sealant for such joints. Standard paper or composition gaskets should mostly be fitted dry if the faces are good but the careful application of jointing compound can help overcome rough faces. Choose a low viscosity compound for thin joints and progressively higher viscosities for thicker joints.

ON a d55155 compressor, you will find the dipstick on the left side as you are facing the control panel. Notice a small black knob on the end-bell of the pump. Pull out the dipstick and notice the oil level line just up from the tip of the stick. Over-filling will cause oil to leak. Use 30wt non-detergent oil or compressor oil. Good luck

Looks like it's an oiled style compressor. Is it getting pretty hot by the time it hits 60psi? Might be low on oil, or the oil has been contaminated with water from condensation. If that's the case then what is happening is the compressor is causing too much resistance for the motor to turn it because of the excess friction. This is could be what is causing it to shut down prematurely.
