Coleman 1850 Questions & Answers
I have an 1850 Coleman powermate that spews gas from gas cap vent, replaced with new one and still does it. How do I fix?
Troubleshoot this problem:
Check Fuel Level: Ensure that the fuel level is not too high. If the tank is filled to the brim, it might cause excess pressure and lead to fuel spewing from the vent.
Gas Cap Design: Some gas caps have a metal cone inside to deflect fuel away from the vent hole. Make sure you have the correct gas cap for your generator. The vent hole may not go through the top of the cap but vents under the gasket inside it.
Vapor Lock: Coleman customer support suggests that vapor lock could be a possible cause. Try the following steps:
Clean the carburetor and its bowl.
Disconnect the gas line to ensure it's clear.
Use fresh fuel.
Inspect the Gas Cap: Double-check that the new gas cap you installed matches the correct part number according to the parts list.
Replace the Gas Cap: If all else fails, consider getting a replacement gas cap specifically designed for your Powermate 1850 generator. You can find suitable gas caps online or at authorized dealers.

How to remove a rusty fuel tank for cleaning
When dealing with specific equipment like the Coleman Powermate Pro 6750 generator, it's important to follow proper procedures and consult the manual for disassembly instructions. However, I can provide some general guidance:
- Look for hidden screws or fasteners: Check for any additional screws or fasteners that may be securing the plastic control panel to the generator frame or the fuel tank. These may not be immediately visible or obvious.
- Disconnect electrical connections: Before attempting to remove the control panel, make sure to disconnect any electrical connections that may be attached to it. These could include wires or connectors for the generator's controls, switches, or displays.
- Release clips or tabs: Some control panels may have clips or tabs that hold them in place. Look for any release mechanisms that may need to be pressed or disengaged to remove the panel.
- Seek guidance from the manufacturer: If you don't have the manual or are unsure about the disassembly process, it's recommended to contact Coleman Powermate customer support or visit their website. They can provide you with the specific instructions or guide you through the steps needed to remove the control panel and access the fuel tank.
Remember to exercise caution and prioritize your safety when working with equipment like generators. If you are uncomfortable or uncertain about the process, it's best to seek professional assistance or consult a qualified technician to avoid any potential damage or harm.

Coleman pm1500 started it up plugged in extension cord to much load killed motor now getting no fire from engine
It sounds like your Coleman PM1500 generator may have experienced a serious issue due to overloading, which may have caused damage to the engine or electrical system. To troubleshoot the issue and restore power to the engine, you may want to try the following steps:
- Check the oil level and fuel level: Make sure that the oil level in the engine is sufficient and that the fuel tank is not empty.
- Check for any visible signs of damage: Check the generator's components, including the engine, spark plug, and electrical system, for any visible signs of damage or wear.
- Test the spark plug: Remove the spark plug and inspect it for damage or fouling. If it appears to be damaged or fouled, replace it with a new one.
- Check the electrical system: Use a multimeter to check the voltage output of the generator's electrical system. If the voltage is low or non-existent, there may be an issue with the generator's alternator or voltage regulator.
If you are unable to diagnose and fix the issue yourself, it may be best to take the generator to a qualified repair technician who can help you identify and address the problem.

Coleman Powermate starts but dies after 10 seconds
It sounds like you've already done a lot of troubleshooting, but here are a few more things to check:
- Spark Plug: Check the spark plug for any visible damage or deposits, replace if needed. Make sure it is tightened properly and there is a strong spark when cranking the engine.
- Fuel Filter: Check the fuel filter for any clogs or debris, replace if needed.
- Air Filter: Check the air filter for any damage or clogs, replace if needed. A dirty air filter can restrict air flow to the engine and cause it to stall.
- Vacuum Leaks: Check for any vacuum leaks in the fuel system, this can cause the engine to run poorly and stall.
- Governor System: The governor system regulates the speed of the engine. If it's not functioning properly, the engine may stall. Check the governor arm, linkages, and springs for any damage or looseness.
- Ignition System: Check the ignition system, including the ignition coil and ignition module, for any signs of damage or wear. Replace if necessary.
- Fuel Pump: Check the fuel pump for proper operation, the fuel pump may be failing and not delivering enough fuel to the engine.
These are just a few possibilities, and it's best to consult the owner's manual or a professional mechanic to diagnose and repair the issue.

Does Coleman 54 series'generator have a reset button
Hi,
It might. Please peruse the table of contents in the product manual for the word "reset." If present, you can read the page associated with it and that should lead you to potentially finding the reset button if it exists.
Thank you.
