MICROWAVE NOT WORKING IS IT WORTH REPAIR EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS
Hello, W/D here.
It depends. If you believe that it is the magnetron tube that's shot, you might be better off with a new microwave. Figure (about) what your microwave is worth. Take 50% of that. Use a lower percentage if the microwave is over 5 years old or has had to be serviced before.
Now, call your local appliance parts supply store and find out the cost of a new magnetron tube. If you are planning on installing it yourself, you can stop here. If the tube will be installed by a local company, add in the service call, and labor. You also need the approximate cost of a new microwave that will meet your needs. If the cost of repairing the microwave is more than 50% of the cost of a new one, or more than 50% of it's worth, you should probably consider buying a new one. Lower the percentage as I said earlier, if the micro has significant age on it, or has a history of repair. It may be more difficult to get parts for a Baumatic, but I suspect that the tube is from a major manufacturer, and shouldn't be the issue. I noted that yours is an 850 watt, with convection, so it sounds like there may be some money in this machine. Newer models are in the 1000 -1200 watt range. One other thing you might consider is that, if you do the work yourself, you'll have no warranty. However, my experience has been that you won't have much, if any, from a service call either. Base your decision on the reliability factor and useful service life that you feel that you will get out of repair versus replacement, and look at the costs both ways, and I'm sure that your decision will be obvious to you, and based on facts.
