When you say your sound card is lost. do you mean it doesent show up in device manager?

if it doesent show up in device manager, remove the sound card (taking all neccessary prcautions) then clean the contacts and try reinstalling it. if that still doesent work try a different PCI Slott.

There is nothing I know of that would improve sound quality from the sound card it would be in the software not the hardware. Check and see if there are any software or driver updates for your sound card.

You probably need to update or inatall a driver for your sound card. If your Compaq came with the Creative Sound Blaster you can get the driver from www compaq.com or from Creative.com If not you have to find the model number for your sound card

To do this remove your sond card and copy any name or numbers then google them you might have to sign up for free to driver co. Larry

You need to download and install a driver for that SOUND CARD. and make sure your speakers are plunged in and working. Larry

You should be able to get the driver from the Compaque website by submitting the model of your computer.

Are you sure that the card is PCI? Are you sure the slot you are trying to use is PCI?

Check out the wikipedia article. Near the end is a diagram that shows the card and slot layout(s).
