I use AS 4.1. I think the Axim will use up to AS 4.5. I had no problems with sync until SP3 came out. Now I must resart the computer with the Axim connected to sync. If the computer goes into suspend it will no longer connect until restarted.

Attempt a restart with it connected.

I have known others with no ability to get the Axim and other devices to be recognized. Unaware of a solution in that case.

Dell Axim5 Top Door is for Compact Flash car. the Battery Backup is the one to maintain the memory alive, but if you still have main battery good is supposed the memory remain until you go out of battery. I have one with some reason the battery backup do not function, so I have to backup all data.

back up your data then perform a hard reset

To perform a hard reset:
1 Press and hold the power button.
2 With the stylus, hold the reset button for about 2 seconds.
3 Follow the instructions on the screen.

note:
When you perform a hard reset, you lose all the data stored on your device.

their are diffrent platform on which the Operating system for windows and mobile is being built ,,,like mac or windows so the platform on which axim is built is 10.x.x.x1
which is a non hacking and now virus platform.

had this trouble myself. I discovered that the backup battery was slightly indented on the top, so it was not making proper contact. Swapped it for another and it was ok. I had tried lots of batteries, though, and surprisingly quite a few had this little dent just enough to stop the X5 recognising the batter.

another thing to try: if you remove the battery and look underneath, there are three tiny golden arms which make the contact. Make sure they are all slightly lifted at the ends. If not slide something flat and non metallic underneath and bend each one up gently. This helps ensure good contact.

You have to bring your Dell Axim X5 PPC to a service center, to check further the back up battery if needs to change it.

Since "Contacts" on the start menu fails at the same time as the button, it is more like that there is a software problem, and the button cannot open the applet that is failing. If you want to ensure that you do not have a hardware problem, try remapping the button to open another application. You can do this by going to Settings/Buttons. You might want to try using the Task Switcher, which you can turn on in Settings/System. When you encounter the problem with Contacts, then click on the Task Switcher and see how many programs are open. Use the Taks Switcher to close all the programs, and then try Contacts again and see if it works. Most applications do not close, and if you have many open applications, then it will degrade performance.

I would think it is having more trouble with the adapter than the actual card. It could also be the storage size of the card that is the problem as well. Try a regular 2GB SD Card and see if it works. If it does, then it is probably just the adapter.

I'm not sure but after that long, could it be the back up battery?

There is no software that I am aware of that can be use to correct this. Try reinstalling your firmware. Make sure you do a backup as all memory info will be erased.

Well windows vista doesnt need any software to run the axim, it has a hardware feature on it to detect and sync to it. Ive never heard of this. It sounds like you only broke the outer layer, digitizer, which takes the stylus inputs. If the screen still shows properly, then your LCD screen is not broken.

I don't know about replacing the LCD screen, but to replace the digitizer, ebay the search words (axim, x5, digitizer) and find a $15 or so replacement.

I downloaded the lastest and greatest driver from driverguide.com and now the camera card works in the compact flash slot. Now life can go on as normal. birds will chirp and rain will fall in troubleshooter land because now all has been put right once again, but then again nothing technical works without solving underlying problems so stay alert because nothing lasts forever! OK, stop goofing off and get back to work! 8-)

What card, my friend?

SD cards must be SD not SDHC, there is not an SDHC driver for the X5. You can find regular SD cards up to 4G.

CF is no problem, all flash based CF cards will work. Microdrives can be problematic.

You may also try upgrading your os on the device this would clear up any problems. As far as i can tell it can only go up to Windows Mobile 3

Go to Wal Mart and buy a 1 gig SD card----- and then buy a AmbiCom 54G wireless CF card. Works perfectly in my X5.

Ether contact dell on this since it seems no one else has a solution or re install the windows OS.
