Follow the four simple steps below to reset the internal drum counter.
 
1.)    Open the front door.
2.)    Press and hold the “Cancel” button; until all of the lights flash.
3.)    Release the “cancel” button.
4.)    Shut the front door.

Depending on the age, there was a safety recall on this printer a couple of years ago for an overheating and possibility of fire. If I remember correctly, it was printers made in 2004 or 2005. Should be something on the web (consumer product safety).

First thoguht was that a corona wire was not heating up properly to melt the toner. Just a thought.

i think u might have used ur printer without paper often . unplug the printer from system and switch it off.Replug it again on the system ant switch it on and see. Even then if it is not printing uninstall the drivers for printers and reinstall again and print.

Check toner darkness settings using the setup utility.

you can try calling Dell support at Technical Support 1-800-624-9896 to verify if the problem is electrical. We had a customer have the same problem after he replaced the imaging drum we found out that the unit still had the problem. He finally figured out that the unit has been exposed to an electrical surge and it caused a problem with the board inside the unit. I would try using a new imaging drum but if the unit is still covered by Dell I would have them replace it.

To reset the photoconductor kit, open the front door, press the cancel button for 3 seconds, all lights will cycle, close front cover. The counter is now reset

If you have tried another power outlet, then you could have a blown fuse or component on the unit's power supply.

Sounds to me like the paper jam switch is broken. Open the back door and look at the center where the paper feeds between the rollers. There should be a small plastic switch actuator sticking up, it probably got broke off.....

sure..it's in the printer control panel, under paper source. Open that up, and you'l lmost likely find that it's on a default. Also, do a print test page under admin, prior to doing any print jobs.

hmm..new cartridge? Check to see it's seated properly. And after replacing, go to the admin panel for the Dell printer, and check all the settings. Then, do a single test page, before doing a print run.
