I can't open the CD drawer on the tower

This sounds like its jammed. I would suggest getting a knife and yanking it out. It should be fine just make sure you don't snap it.
Simply insert the knife into the middle and slightly tilt and it should spur open.

Hope I helped Dr Reed

My sound went out and now is saying no sound card

This means 1 of 2 things. Either your Sound Card is fried, or the Sound driver is corrupted.

1. First, check that your driver is installed.

Click the start menu and right click on "My Computer" and click "Manage". Select "Device Manager" from the list on the left, Scroll down to "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers". Expand that list, if you have any errors (Yellow Triangles, Red X's) there, you will need to reinstall drivers which can be obtained HERE.

2. Install a new Sound Card in your computer. This will be a PCI-type Card. There are cheap replacements which can be found HERE.

Have a dell 2300 and wont let me restore back to

For that you need windows disk or recovery disk.
Then insert that disk into cd/dvd rom then when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or "del" key to enter in bios then boot boot menu and set first boot device as cd/dvd rom then save settings and exit.
Then it boot with that disk then follow the procedure on screen and choose R for "repair previous windows" then it repairs it.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

The sound on my dell 2300 pc went out. I

yea sure..but b4 u proceed installing a fresh snd card plz do check that is d problem lies with ur snd card, is d card defective..r all drivers, softwares, codecs along with hardware r ok n workin fine..!!

though itz unclear to me of wat os u r using..
assuming that u r using win xp pro sp2..n directx installed..

probably itz either minor case of software corruption/cpu fan..
or major case of faulty or defective main board/ram/daughter or addon card(s)..

..plz do check the following as in order:..
the Hardware part:..
1) a)check bios..if audio device is enabled..to install a fresh snd card, one must disable d onboard audio in bios..
b) also check for software corruption..mind for a driver update n rest follow the software instructions below..

2)see if the ram(s) is loose/faulty..open clean/remove carbon & or oxide formed on the teeth with an eraser n resit it..or replace with a standby n see..

3)remove/clean dust neatly..dust is non-uniform in nature n may cause jam/short circuitry/excess resistance n many more..resulting an increase in heat..

4)on main/mother board..see with a debug card for mb error..may b short..look for defective capacitors(espabove1000mfd)/mosfets..go through the mb's south bridge n the circuit lie around atx connector..

5) [in case of desktop] the smps itself may b defective/faulty..check the outputs of smps viz. 0v (black~ground); +12v(yellow); +5v (red, green~ps-on, violet~pg& grey~sb); -12v (blue);-5v(white); +3.3v(orange)..the 'oscillator and error amplifier ic',or pwm switching regulator circuit..look for defective protector-transformer/resistance (esp 4.7k)/mosfet..
check the battery n adapter [main power], in case of laptops..

the Software part:..
1) hv a licensed and UPDATED antivirus installed (i prefer avg/kaspersky,remember, without updation a full version antivirus is useless)..

2) a)download, install n run microsoft kb890830..http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=AD724AE0-E72D-4F54-9AB3-75B8EB148356&displaylang=en..
b) download, install n run microsoft kb888111..http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=888111&kbln=en-us..
c) download, install n run microsoft kb901105..http://support.microsoft.com/kb/901105..

3) download n install k-lite mega codec pack (full)..http://www.free-codecs.com/K_lite_codec_pack_download.htm..

4) download n run Startup Control Panel..http://download.cnet.com/Startup-Control-Panel/3000-2094_4-10039330.html..'remove all the unnecessary startup items from here..(if u can't find what to remove, post me/us in ur comment with all the items listed in each n every tabs herein)..

5) remove all unnecessary software from add/remove programs..

6) download, install n run 'Advanced System Care Pro'..http://download.cnet.com/Advanced-SystemCare-Pro/3000-2086_4-10399324.html..

7) disable the following:..
a)'Automatically Restart' right click on my computer->properties->advanced->startup n recovery->(uncheck on the) Automatically Restart;
b) 'Error Reporting' right click on my computer->properties->advanced->error reporting->disable error reporting->(uncheck on the) 'but notify me when critical error occur'..

8) Increase the size of Virtual Memory, Initial: 1440; Maximum: 2880

if u r not a professional, always better to seek advise from ur system admin/vendor....

How do you get your dell dimension 2300 back to

Do you do maintenance on your computer?

Do this - get these free utilities and use them regularly: CClean will remove temp files and other unnecessary stuff. Use the cleaner and the registry cleaner of CClean. Get it here: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download Go to Comodo and their their suite of free programs that include REG Cleaner. http://system-cleaner.comodo.com/ Run it.

Go here: http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/default.htm and get Microsoft Security Essentials. Run each section of it. It may take hours - let it run. After you have done all of this, open the disk defragmenter in your computer and defrag your hard drive. If you use this computer for e-mail ... make sure you get rid of all the stuff in the sent and deleted folders. You are done with it - why save it any longer.

When you are done with all of this, your comuter will run faster. There are other things you can do ... these are the essentials you must do first.

You might want to explore what is starting up when you turn your computer on ... there are probably lots of memory hogging stuff running at startup that you never use. You can turn these things off and the tools I recommended to you can helpyou with this also.

I have a dell Dimension 2300 and the images are

Try these steps: 1. Check the monitor settings. Access the On Screen Display (OSD) Menu System. Adjust the contrast and brightness using the control buttons in the monitor.
2. Run the monitor self test. Unplug the video cable from the computer (cable from monitor to the back of the computer). Usually it has a blue or white connector. Turn on the monitor alone. It should display the self test pattern (white, red, green & blue). If the images are dark in the self test, it is a problem with the monitor.
2. Rotate the monitor to face a different direction. This will help in eliminating sunlight glare which can cause poor picture quality.
3. Test your computer using another working monitor. If the problem occurs in a known good monitor, then it is a video card or motherboard (if your video card is integrated) problem.
I hope these options help.

I bought a pentium 4 3.0 ghz 800 mhz & my

The motherboard chipset of the Dell Dimension 2300 Desktop PC, will not support a processor with an 800MHz Front Side Bus frequency rate.

Only Intel Pentium 4's that use a Socket 478, 1.75 Volts, and a maximum of a 400MHz FSB.

The Intel Pentium 4 HT 3.0GHz processor has an 800MHz FSB, (As you have already stated), and uses 1.475 to 1.55 Volts.

The motherboard chipset for that Dell Dimension 2300, is an Intel 845GL.

This list on Wikipedia, shows you parameters the Intel 845GL chipset supports,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_chipsets#Pentium_4_Chipsets

Not a good outcome, sorry. Just stating the facts.
