A steady or Amber blinking power button indicates a low voltage problem. This can be caused by a defective power supply or a defective motherboard. Just to make sure that nothing else is causing the problem, remove any PCI cards like modem, video card, sound card, etc... Remove the memory modules and disconnect cables to CD/DVD drives. Look at the USB ports to see if any are damaged.

Your monitor settings within windows are set too high for the monitor to display... When computer first boots.. be ready and press the F8 key...
Enter safe mode.. Reset the display properties in control panel to 800 by 600 for a start. Setting the resolution too high past the monitors ability will give you that message.. If you're talking about the light blinking on the CD/DVD drive when you try to turn on your system .. that's because it's getting enough power for the disc drive to run it's onboard boot circuits. Does not mean that the rest of the system is getting the power it needs .. could very well be that your main Power Supply Unit (psu) is going out. Note :: PSU's are one of the most frequently replaced items in desktop systems. Many new systems come under-powered and upgrades that place more demand on the power supply will stress minimal psu units. When I replace them, if at all possible, I put in stronger ones so they do not stress and wear out as quickly. If you're talking about the actual Power LED on the computer blinking, its most likely an error. The 8200 has a set of LEDs on the back to indicate various failure codes. You didn't mention beeping so its not a beep code, which exists as well. Plug and Play Error? Check and see what CD/DVD Device you have connected. An 8200 uses Either SATA Connectors or IDE (WIDE GRAY CABLE) to connect to the hard disk and the Optical Drives. You may also want to check the jumper settings on the CD/DVD Drives. You will see if it's been set to "Cable Select," which is AUTO for most Dell computers. Dell OptiPlex and Dimension computers can be tricky so try "Cable Select" first. If you have TWO cd/dvd Drives in the PC, you have to have one SET for "master," and the other one to NOT HAVE A JUMPER AT ALL. Dell computers just work weird that way.

If you mean Power, then your psu (power supply unit) has most-likely gone bad. This happens a lot when a computer is as old as this model is. If you have no other choice than to replace the power supply, be sure to use dell in the search, models of this era did not have an opening on the back to accommodate a power (on/off) switch so you must get a replacement that will fit the case and not need an opening where there is not going to be one. If you're still using a Dimension 8200, there is a very good chance that things are beginning to wear out. Power supplies go out just about more often than anything else but, CDs are a close 2nd on having to be replaced. Once computers reach this sort of age it really is better to go ahead and take the plunge .. save up if you have to but, its sinking ship time with old model computers and you'll never stop dumping money into them to keep them working reliably.

404 errors online usually mean the page requested is missing. If you are getting that no matter what address you try to visit, then you're not online to the internet. You may wish to restart your computer and see if it "gets through" to any website. If you do get some sites to come up but still get a 404 on a particular link, the page doesn't exist. If you're not able to get any pages then something is wrong with your networking .. somewhere along the line. Could be in the computer, router, cable/dsl modem. Sounds like a power pack problem. But when it does run, have you had any other problems? Are you using Win XP?

Take out all of the SIMMs. Put one in and power on the PC's If this errors then take that one out and put another one in. If this errors do the same for the others. You may also find that removing one of the SIMMs sticks will allow the system to start. As they may have to be added in pairs. ie. You have 2, 4 or 6 installed. But 5 will not work. Check the Dell site to confirm "configuration of Memory".
