How to reconnect HP Chromebook to internet thru desk computer and router.

The Chromebook has a wireless network interface. So, it does not connect to your computer. Instead, it connects to your wireless router. If you do not remember that password for your wireless network, you need to "reset" your router to its "factory-settings", and then recreate the name of your wireless network, and enter a new password, to define it.

So I just got a

Desktop computers do not usually have a wireless card installed. They will have a built-in LAN card that uses a LAN cable.
If you want to connect your computer using a wireless connection then you will need to install a wireless card in your computer and configure it to communicate with your wireless router.
Otherwise you can connect to your wireless router using a LAN cable.
Your wireless router may have built-in LAN ports and you can connect your computer to the wireless router using a network cable.

Sx280 video controller

For Windows XP drivers, the last supported through Dell, try one of the three listed here: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/product/optiplex-sx280 Change the Operating System to "MS Windows XP" and the Category to "Video". This discussion suggests that Windows Update will get you working drivers after a Windows 7 install: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3529/p/19329672/19807012.aspx

Dell optiplex sx280 fans to loud! How do I turn them down?

1) Tell them to be quiet. The kids are sleeping.2) Promise them a nice quiet vacation in the Bahamas, if they will just be quiet for now.3) In a firm voice tell them that they CAN be replaced.OR,1) Suggest you replace the Thermal Paste on the Processor. It has dried out.2) Also clean the inside of the computer out. Suggest it is dirty inside.(Wuz trying to just be funny................Alan?....................Alan?)The top of a Processor (CPU), and the bottom of the fined Heatsink that sits on it; are not perfectly smooth.A magnified view would detail, 'Ridges, Valleys, and Pitholes'.When the two parts are mated together, Air Pockets are created.Air is an Insulator in this case, Not a Conductor.Thermal Paste fills the above imperfections, and is an Excellent conductor of heat.Thermal Paste dries up over time. Looses it's thermal conductivity properties. It's cheap in cost. Can guide you step by step in replacing the Thermal Paste, and also cleaning out the inside of the computer.Post back in a Comment.Regards, joecoolvetteA) Dell Optiplex SX280 User's Guide (1668KB)http://www.dell.com/support/Manuals/us/en/19/Product/optiplex-sx280[How to open the computer case - Adding and Removing Parts > Removing the Computer Cover.Adding and Removing Parts > Processorftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_optiplex_desktop/optiplex-sx280_user%27s%20guide_en-us.pdf ]B) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3071621&CatId=503C) http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/274

Optiflex sx280 does not start.

Fans working? Maybe a PSU failure? Replace CMOS Battery. Reseat/replace Memory Mods. It's getting a bit old. Hard to say with a older computer thing start to go one by one. I replaced a PSU after 7 years. CMOS battery dead, replaced, Then the Sound Failed, new sound card. etc. I stripped it of useful parts and sent it out into the world.
