Dell Cd/Dvd burner not working properly

I have a Dell XPS 400 that's about 3 years old. I have a DVD reader and a DVD-RW device. The former works - the latter takes forever to read discs (particularly DVD data discs.)

I'm starting to think some of the generic DVD-RW devices Dell uses in its computers are prone to early failure. The DVD-RW in my XPS-400 was called "HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H21N".

I'm going to try cleaning it, and then just swap it out for a better device.

There should be a small pin-hole on the laptop's DVD drive. Find a needle or a paper clip and push it into the pin hole. This should either manually eject the disc or pop open.

If you do not have a pinhole on your DVD drive, go to My Computer > DVD Rom Drive

Right click on your DVD Rom Drive, and click "Eject".

This should remove the disc.

Hope this helped!

Hello. DVD drive for

I had the same issue with my laptop from Dell. I purchased it in 2005, and by 2009 I had the burner unit replaced 7 times. They would work for a short time, and then stop burning. After awhile they wouldn't even play disks, never mind burning them. I never received a satisfactory answer from Dell as far as why I had to keep replacing the unit. They just kept sending me replacements for as long as my warranty was good. I had purchased and extra 4 years of warranty thankfully enough. I have over 30 years of experience with computers, and have never seen so many of the same hardware item replaced in such a short time. I think the reality of the situation is that Dell buys the cheapest units they can get their hands on. They are not to worried about warranty replacements as they send them back to the manufacturer. Once you are out of warranty, as I was after the last time the unit quit on me, their telephone people then tell you to replace your computer with a newer one as yours is just so old now.

You can try and reload the driver from the Dell site for your laptop. If you go to their supports site and enter your Service Tag number you will get a list of all of the drivers that are specific to your machine. Download the drive for your burner, and then double click it to install the driver. Most units have more than one type of burner listed so be careful to make sure you download the correct file. Hopefully that will take care of the issue. If not, and you still have a warranty, contact their support line and have them send you a new unit.

Thank you for the opportunity to assist you in resolving your issue. Should you need further information or assistance please do not hesitate to let us know.

Whenever i try to burn

Hi
First of all check you don’t have a trial version of the software while burning cd.
Check your computer to make sure it has a CD burner. Find out if it also has CD writing software. Realize that most computers now do come with a CD burner-you can get one installed, for instance, at a computer repair shop. Download or purchase CD writing software (online or from an electronics store) if you lack the software needed. Buy software, such as "Nero Burning ROM," which also comes with a CD label maker.
Buy recordable CDs. Know that you can record on both CD-R as well as CD-RW, but CD-R is best for recording both music and data, whereas CD-RW is best for data as some audio equipment won't play music recorded on a CD-RW. However, CD-RW is rewritable and is great for saving files and data and then altering what's on it.Insert your blank CD-R or CD-RW. Look for your CD writing software-click the "Start" menu; then click "Programs." Open the software and choose "Wizard" over the "Manual" option if available, especially if you've not used the software before or if it's been a while since you've used it.
Select the option for either data or audio. Remember if you want to backup or save data files from your computer, select "data," but if you want to make a copy of one of your listening CDs, choose "audio" or "music."Open the files or music to be copied from within your CD writing software. Find data or audio easily with the software wizard, or see an option for opening files in the software menu or on the screen (it should be fairly obvious).
A lot of CD writing software has a "drag and drop" option similar to a Windows Explorer type of look and function. Use this feature or copy and paste data or audio you want to put on your blank CD.
Wait for the CD writing software to copy the data or music. Pick "Burn" once the files or audio have been copied-this might take a little time. Avoid messing with your computer while the software is copying or burning because you might end up with an incomplete burning session or a damaged CD.
Check your new CD once the burning session is complete. Open it from "My Computer" or a program on your machine. Look to see if all the data or audio files you wanted copied are there. Listen to your audio CD to check it too if you want.
However check this link bellow if it helps…

My dell /with a roxio easy cd and dvd program does not recognize

You might have a corrupted registry but it's easy to fix though just click on start - run - type regedit then In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

In the right pane, click UpperFilters and or LowerFilters then delete both of them (sometimes only one of either of this shows up, but that's ok)

After deleting filters restart the computer and that should fix the problem.

Should you have any other questions just kinldy leave a comment.

Cheers~

Trying to burn a playlist from my itunes account

Hi there,

The ITunes error 4261 appears when attempting to burn CD's. The error code can appear for several reasons, including a faulty CD-RW, used CD's or a slow speed burner.

The error may also occur when you are trying to burn a file that has Dynamic Random Memory from ITunes & you have exceeded your permitted attempts.

The error can also happen if you are accessing the files from a different PC than where it was registered.

Try slowing your burn speed to 16x or even 12x or use Nero Express or Windows Media Player to burn your MP3 files. Other techniques for resolving this error include using new CD's & activating DLA in the Drive Properties.

I truly hope that one of these solutions clearly resolves your problem. Good luck.

Kindest regards,
