Your modem if it is a Speedstream 5200 does not have any wireless capability and as such, there is no need for a password. You can only use one computer connected with an ethernet cable to your computer. What you can do is purchase a wireless router, preferably a N series wireless router because it is stronger than a normal G series router. Normally your modem connects to your computer via the ethernet cable. With a wireless router, instead of plugging the modem to your computer you should plug it in router. From the router you can connect another ethernet cable and plug it in on your desktop. You can connect at least 4 wired computer to your router. For the wireless part, all they have to do is look for the strongest wireless signal then hit connect. If it ask for a password then it should be in the sticker at the side of the wireless router.
I am going to attempt and I say attempt to give you a solution. After much research I find that this issue has come up before since about 2003 on those series of modems. I found one solid reference that solved the issue. Their solution was to set the modem to Bridge and do the port fowarding in the Linksys router. I do not know if this will help you in your setup but it is at least worth the suggestion. I am sure your Speedstream is out of warranty by now and you are unable to get back to the supplier, who may have other suggestions. Those modems have come through an evolution of updates as you might have guessed and the solution may be getting another kind.
I hope this was useful and please comment if this was helpful to you.
Normally, all dsl modems can be "unbridged" byr resetting it to factory state.. But that would mean you have to save you DSL username & password again..
Check page 38 for setting modem to non-bridge mode..
You probably need to reinstall the driver.
Here is a link for you. If you do not find what you need here, please feel free to get back to me for continued research.

In most cases Vista will "discover" your hardware and apply the correct drivers. It is never a bad idea to visit the manufacturer's site to see if they have a more current driver than was selected by the Vista install.
This is not a direct link but should get you the latest driver.
Download the manual from the link and review page 7 for ethernet connection.
Notice particularly the back of the device. There are four connection points to plug things in the one on the left with DSL is where cable with the phone connectors connects the phone jack to the speedstream 5200. On the right the round connector with the pin is where the power goes. Next to the power connector to the left is a USB connector. In between usb connector and the DSL port is an ethernet connector. One way to avoid the need for the USB software os to use the ethernet connector bu connecting an ethenet cable (wider connector that fits snugly in both ports one on the Speadstream 5200 and the other probably present on your computer.
First thing:
The computer that you're using for these services needs to have a static IP address configured in your private network and not a DHCP address assigned by the router.
Secondly thing:
Depending on your security policies (computer firewall and/or router), you will need to sure that the settings from your router and/or your PC firewall are not blocking the ports that you need to connect for these services.
Once you know that you have this area covered, you can move forward with the necessary procedures to properly configure your Speedstream 5200 using the link below:
i assume you can enter the correct username and password.
if not and you don't have any idea what the password could be other than standard ones like 1234, 0000, admin you got to reset your router.
if you do know your password and username you probably have a high internet security settings and/or problems with accepting cookies. Try adding the address 192.168.2.1 to safe websites in your internet explorer settings.
you should be able to access your modem in your web browser using 10.1.1.1 as the address . if u haven't changed the password and user name they should both be admin. once in the settings change from static IP to dynamic ip this should solve your connection problems
