Epson Stylus CX5400 All-In-One InkJet Printer - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

Hello, Bill - I had an Epson Stylus CX5400, which I loved, until a little over a year and 3 months ago. The black foam piece which was on top of the print heads tore off. I found out it was not worth having the repair work done to replace the foam piece. The estimated cost of repair work was about equal the initial purchase price of the printer. Sadly, based on information I found on CNet.com forums, printers manufactured today are not made to last "forever". Here is one statement which I found (dated 13 Nov 2005, but still valid) which I believe covers the issues: (Quote) Price by though stazi / November 13, 2005 The root of the problem is the low price of inkjet printers these days. With inkjet printers, the printers themselves are sold at a loss usually. Printer companies make it up on the back end with inflated cartridge prices. they are proper mardy machines only happy when using original epson cartridges

Must use included HP "starter ink" cartridges before the CISS can work. There's a 3-button sequence [OK-Cancel-Black Button] sequence when powering on that will reset the printer and bypass the "starter ink" wall you're hitting

Ive replaced all the cartridges on my epson 5500 but still nothing prints. Any help gratefully received

Are these genuine Epson Cartridges? If not, Please try Genuine Cartridges for best results. If they ARE genuine ... take them back to the place you bought them and complain. If you already did that ... please ask your question again and mention these important facts.

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out in the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, thenprint head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.

Simply lift the lid by holding under the front LCD screen and lifting.
The Cartridges should come to the middle and you will be able to replace.

A blinking red light can be three things, A Cartridge is empty or Can not be recognized, or the Purge tank is full. If you have other cartridges try them first, or

• While the printer is on, disconnect the power cable and the USB cable from the back of the printer.
• Restart your computer.
• Connect back the USB cable and the power cable at the back of the printer.
• If it does not turn on, use the power button to turn it on.

If this does not resolve the issue, look at the display panel of the printer and tell me what the does it say.

There are no less than 24 cases in which the error light is triggered. Without knowing what is the actual error we cannot give you a solution. Please provide more details.
In the mean time try to replace the cartridges and clean their contacts - they are the most common causes of errors.

Epson printers have replaceable ink tanks but the firing nozzles are permanently built into the printer. The firing nozzle for the black ink is most likely blocked. Try the nozzle cleaning process via the supplied software, although this will waste a lot of ink and will not guarantee 100% success. If it is under warranty I would recommend returning it to the shop and buying a different make. These printers are not reliable and often require you to replace ink cartridges even though there is ink still in them, due to built-in chips which report the ink levels incorrectly.

try to plug off crtridge, then plug on again, then try to head cleaning function again, it may fix your problem

If the inkjet printer has not been used for some time, and the ink cartridges are full then the print head nozzles may be blocked. If running the maintenance nozzle cleaning does not clear the print head nozzles then the print head will need to be replaced.
NOTE - inkjet print heads are not cheap, it may be better to purchase a new inkjet printer.
