So after downloading this driver.
Step 1 Turn on computer. Step 2 Connect Printer to computer Step 3 Walk throught the Windows found hardware menu Step 4 When asked about driver point to the newly downloaded driver.

The line is a sign that the holes in the printing head corresponding to that line are working at full constantly (the opposite of a clogged head) while the ones under them not at all, which means that they are no longer correctly controlled by the processor of the printer. This is a hardware fault and the only way it can be fixed is by replacing the entire mainboard. This would cost you more than a new printer.
Sorry, this printer is effectively dead, you need to replace it.

It would be easier and cheaper to buy a new printer.

Have you tried the steps below, if not, try them Turn on the printer by pressing the"Power" button. Check the red "Ink" light next to the powerbutton. If it is flashing, you need to first replace an ink cartridge. If the"Ink" light is off, proceed with the cleaning process. 2 Open the Epson Printer Utilityprogram installed on the computer connected to the printer. In the mainmenu, click the "Head Cleaning" option. Click "Start" tobegin the cleaning process. This may take several minutes. You will hear noisesfrom the printer and the "Power" light will begin to flash. 3 Load paper into the tray when the"Power" light stops flashing and you no longer hear noises. Click the"Print Nozzle Check Pattern" option on your screen, then click"Print" on the following screen. The printer will now print a testpage. 4 Click "Finish" if thetest page looks complete. If there are gaps in the image or white lines runningacross the page, the print head needs to be cleaned again. Click the"Clean" option on the final screen instead of "Finish" toclean the heads again. Once again, the printer will print a test page whenfinished. If the page does not meet your standards, clean the head until youare satisfied.

But I had a few problems trying to apply it. I wound up with one of those"extra" parts. (see http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/printer/37654)

So, be advised that the fix is non-trivial to perform if you're a klutz likeme, and also you probably DON'T need to disassemble the print head. (On theother hand, if you DO disassemble the print head, and you see a little partlike the one I found, please tell me where it goes!).

Red paper and ink lights flash alternately Paper may be blocking movement of the print head. Turn off the printer, then open the cover and remove any jammed paper or other foreign objects. Turn the printer back on again. If the lights are still on, contact your dealer or Epson as described in Where To Get Help.

maybe your printer need to be overhaul clean as it may have ink spread inside around, have it clean if still persist it need to be reset.

I'm afraid that's pretty much the end of the line. Time for a new printer.

What is the flash pattern?

If the red paper light and the red ink light are blinking in an alternating pattern, then you may have a foreign object or piece of paper blocking the movement of the print head. Turn off the printer, open the printer and look for anything in the printhead path. Remove anything that doesn't belong. Some printers have a strip that the print head travels across that can sometimes come out of position. This can be repositioned by moving it up and down as well as forward and back to align in a guide on the back of the print head.

After clearing the obstruction, close the printer and turn it back on. If the error persists, then the unit needs service.

If the red paper light and the red ink light are blinking together and the green power light is off, then the printer has an internal error. Turn it off and then back on. If the error persists, the unit needs service.

One internal error could be the waste ink absorber is full. These pads are below the printhead and absorb ink during cleaning cycles. To reach them is messy and takes disassembling the printer from the top. This may include removing the print head. Pull the pads, blot the ink off them and the places where they fit in the printer. Run clean water over the pads until the water remains clear. Dry the pads (use a hair dryer to speed the process). Then reassemble the printer.

Next navigate to http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/InkPadsForm.jsp and fill in the model and serial number of the printer (as well as the other required information). You will get a link to download a reset utility for Windows. Run this tool to solve the error. Do not run this utility until the pads are replaced or cleaned; waste ink will get everywhere inside the printer and over your documents.

Only one thing to resolve this. Please run cleaning on maintenance mode to clear out the clog on the printer head. If the head is clogged this issues occur. Please run cleaning and you'll be good.

Inspect the ink cartridge parking zone. If there is a heavy build-up of ink, there's probably a fair amount of ink crusted on the cartridge heads. The bad part is if you remove the cartridges on this model for manual cleaning, the printer may not let you use them again (it will claim the cartridges are empty), so you may want to try cleaning them without removing from the printer.

For this operation, first get the cartridges into the center and pull the plug on the printer so it won't try to put them away while you are working on them. I haven't tried this scheme on a printer yet, but it's worked in other tight spaces: dampen a paper towel with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol). Wrap it once around the end of a strip of poster board the width of the cartridge and long enough for convenient handling, and hold it with just enough tension the paper towel to keep it in place. Slide this under the ink heads and gently wipe them with the paper towel. Flip the cleaning tool over and repeat with this side. Replace the strip of paper towel and repeat as necessary. And while you are at it, gently wipe out the head parking zone so it doesn't re-contaminate the heads.

Of course, it is possible you really are out of ink - sometimes ink feed to the heads gets erratic when the level is very low.
