Epson Perfection 1670 Flatbed Scanner Questions & Answers
Cannot communicate with scanner
Yep - I had the same problem. The issue is the cheap USB wire provided by Epson. It's too thin and isn't very well shielded. Use another one and you should be fine (or try keeping the wire away from other wires/sockets).
Hope that helps. :)

My suggested solution was to become an Elite Expert and to consult myself.
Blank Image on Scan
I had this problem with a scanner and I replace the usb wire from the printer to the computer and it fixed it. Let me know if it works
1670 no image scan
Same Problem (WinXP System). I found leaving it off when not using it fixes my problems. (Its like the scanner light overheats or overloads the light receptors and it just sees white from then on, no matter what you do on the pc side of things). Other problems while stumbling into this "fix" include WIA drivers loaded which will stop scanner working properly, and finally scanner drivers seemingly working when USB cable in connected to another port other than what it was installed on but no image is shown (Not 100% sure if it was same problem as detailed at top)

You can download the drivers from the epson website. You can finde them here:
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?oid=23762&prodoid=35836299&BV_UseBVCookie=yes&infoType=Downloads&platform=Macintosh&x=20&y=15
Scans but wont show up in preview
your program may be corrupted. uninstall the device in control panel, remove the usb cable from the back of the scanner, uninstall the software, restart your computer.
without attaching the cable to the unit, install the software:
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=23762&prodoid=35836299&infoType=Downloads&platform=Windows
after you begin installation it will ask you to plug in the unit. Do this so the install can finish. after the software is installed, restart the computer and run the program. when you first run the program it should ask you to run a test. make sure the selection for aligning the scanner is selected and RUN THE TEST! a lot of people just skip this but it is very important to do this as the system doesn't know where the initializing point of the scanner is. your computer is like a child. it has to learn too!!!
If you have any problems let me know and please leave positive feedback for me.

My scanner has stopped working
From what you're saying, it sounds like the scanner isn't getting power. There's a plug-in AC adapter that provides the power, and it may just be that the plug is loose in the scanner. If you've moved the scanner or stuff on the desk it may have dislodged the plug. Also, check that the adapter is getting power. Is the outlet where you have it plugged working? Or the adapter may have died, which is common. You can probably find a suitable replacement locally at Radio Shack or online. Just be sure to match the voltage and current rating of the original (you can go higher on current but not lower) and polarity of the plug. Or something in the scanner itself has failed, in which case you're best off replacing it. Because the replacement cost is low, you will be hard-pressed to find any professional service shop willing to take this in for repair. If you have an electronic tinkerer friend, maybe he or she can check it out. It might turn out to be a simple fix.
No image appears in preview or after scan
I had exactly the same problem after moving my scanner to a new location, even though it was locked... it happened blank scanns, so I was about to go get my self a new scanner.
What I did was to get a cotton pad, put alot of alcohol on it and clean both sides of the connection usb cable in/out and then let it dry. Also I unistall all the epson scanner applications and reinstall with the new driver epson 12699.
It worked perfect, try it you have nothing to loose.
I dont know much about pc how do i get my scanner
THE steps will guide you through a successful scanner to pc interaction
1
Unpack your new scanner and set it up. Follow package directions and setup instructions to assemble any parts that need assembly.
2
Plug in your scanner and power it up.
3
Insert the setup CD in your CD-ROM or DVD drive. It should autotomatically run. If it doesn't, click on "My Computer" and then on the CD or DVD drive to open the CD. Look for a Setup.exe file. Double-click on it to launch the setup disk.
4
Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the end-user agreement and install the necessary drivers and software to run your new scanner.
5
When prompted, connect the USB cable to the scanner, then plug the other end into the USB port on your desktop PC.
6
Windows will recognize that a new device is available on your computer, and find the necessary software and drivers to install it.
7
Restart your PC if prompted to do so.
Troubleshooting
1
Check all cable connections to be sure that they are secure.
2
Disconnect the USB cable from the desktop and the scanner.
3
Turn off your computer and let it cool down for 10 minutes.
4
Turn the computer on, then turn the scanner on. Reconnect the USB cable to the scanner. Try connecting the other end of the USB cable to a different port on your computer.
5
If none of these suggestions solve your problem, uninstall the scanner and start over.
Perfection 1670 Flatbed Scanner: When I try to scan I get a message saying:
"Can...
Do the following:
Uninstall the scanner from your computer
Restart
Re-install all software and drivers with the original CD * if you dont have the drivers check the manufacturars website *
Restart again
And then it should work fine. If this fails use the scanner wizard in Windows Control Panel and follow the step by step instructions.
SCANNER WILL NOT RECOGNIZE DOCUMENTS
Have you tried a new USB cable or a different port? Are you sure that the ports are on? (You can turn them off for security or power-savings - check the device manager and the advanced settings from the Screen Saver settings page). Does the scanner work on another computer or does a known working USB device work on your computer? Check if there is an update to the USB driver for your motherboard/machine.
Scanners require bi-directional communication with the computer and are very sensitive to any interference with the signal.
I hope this helps.

Scans are blank
Just want to check that you are putting the paper face down.
Then i'd unplug it, turn off your computer, turn on your computer and then plug in the scanner.
Let the computer find the hardware, and if it has its own drivers, let it use them, if not, supply the disc and let it install from there.
Sometimes there is a lock, you must make sure you are not locked. (this is to protect the scanner during shipping.)
