sounds like the lcd is leaking into the glass , when it does it usualy turns black and gradualy spreads further and further over the screen over time , a leaking lcd requires replacing the lcd panel

the type of cable you use is important. i work for dish network and i have seen cables go bad. also tv's hdmi imputs go bad as well. i would call a technitian out to look at the system, have him try a new hdmi cable and in different ports to make it work. it may be there reciever or your tv.

This is the Power Board for it. check those 6 electrolytic Capacitors on the right for bulging or splitting. Don't buy it blindly, it's a guess. It can't be done. The DVD remote will be single frequency for that device only and the LG remote for that LG Blu Ray (or series) only. Companies don't make cross-control between makers easy. The only exception is cable and satellite boxes to allow their remote to also control the television.
