I have a Gateway MX6400

Look at the driver properties. I suspect a generic Microsoft driver has been installed and that driver doesn't work correctly. (Right click on the audio device from Device Manager and select Properties. Then check the Drivers tab. Look for the line with Driver Provider.) I can't find a MX6400 listed on Gateway's driver site, http://www.gateway.com/gw/en/US/content/drivers-downloads . There are the MX6410 and MX6420 listed. Both of these have a Conexant audio driver for XP and Vista. The Vista driver may work under Windows 7. (Make sure to correctly select the 32-bit or 64-bit depending on your OS version.) Download the driver and try to manually install it. If that doesn't work, try a Conexant audio driver from another laptop brand that is for the correct version of Windows 7. (Just Google Conexant audio driver Windows 7.) I hope this helps. If you have a problem, please let me know what your Device manager claims the manufacturer is on the HD audio device and the driver manufacturer listed in the Properties. Also add a comment if you see any error messages when trying to install a new audio driver. Cindy Wells

I think that I need to replace my gateway laptop

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question mark? Right click to reinstall drivers or uninstall click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers make sure you have selected the (((appropriate speakers))) also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have the correct settings there also click start control panel sounds and audio devices select advanced there might be a tick in the mute box untick it click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar if his does not fix the problem

have you tried this control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand, system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable) also you might check the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the side of a laptop computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer hope this helps

Attempting Computer PC to HDTV

You need to make sure you changed the sound device properly in windows. To do this right click the speaker in the bottom right hand corner of your screen and hit playback devices. Then select the correct device. If you don't know which you can select one and right click and hit "test". Keep trying them until you get sound out of your TV.
If that doesn't work then make sure you have the latest sound drivers. There are two audio drivers on the Gateway website that might work http://global-download.gateway.com/GDFiles/Driver/Audio/Audio_Realtek_5.0.1.5704_Vistax64Vistax86_A.zip?acerid=633675264897204477&Step1=DESKTOP&Step2=LX%20SERIES&Step3=LX6810&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=GATEWAY&SC=PA_6G and http://global-download.gateway.com/GDFiles/Driver/Audio/HDAudio_nVidia_1.00.0.37_Vistax64Vistax86_A.zip?acerid=633675265145088477&Step1=DESKTOP&Step2=LX%20SERIES&Step3=LX6810&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=GATEWAY&SC=PA_6G .Try them both and at least one of them should work. You may need to restart your computer after installing the drivers but after that everything should work fine.

No sound with videos, email, movies or with any

Make sure that your drivers are installed for your sound card. Goto www.gateway.com and click on support and you will be able to download your drivers for it. If it is not an integrated sound card then you will need the drivers for the individual card. Make sure you check your speakers on another system and your headphones jack first. If you get sound out of the head phones jack then it is more than likely your speakers. Good luck.

No sound from my gateway

Click on start, then click on control panel , then double click system, then click on hardware, and finely click on device manager. scroll down to audio devices and select your sound card. right click the mouse , then select uninstall . It should only take five to ten seconds to uninstall . if it prompts you to restart your computer do so . if it doesn't prompt you to restart then left click on actions in the toolbar at the top of your screen and select scan for hardware changes . once it detects your sound card your device drivers screen will appear . select automatically install drivers for me . after it's done , close the boxes until you get back to the control panel then select sounds and audio devices . see if your sound card shows up on the first window that opens. if not there, left click on the sounds or the audio selection and see if your sound card shows up under audio devices . if it does not , you might want to consider swapping out your sound card with another one .

When i open any songs

Hi, The problem that you are facing is a grave issue as it is related to internet browser itself. All you will have to remember the video website that you have been through recently and check where you have muted the sound. The situation that you are in currently is dealt like this only as muting sound on a website effects all other video or audio websites on your internet browser. However you can try resetting internet browser to manufacturer's default to check it further. Resetting Internet Explorer is easy. Open Internet Explorer > Tools Menu> Internet Options> Advanced tab> Reset. If you are using Firefox, open Start Menu>Run and then type "firefox -safe-mode" without quotes and reset firefox completely.
Hope that resolved your issue.
Cheers!

Hi there,

When you reinstalled (not rebooted, which you should do it every day) you forgot to install the driver for the audio - go to
http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/ddaStep.asp?Tab=All
to download all of them.

My sound wont work. i've tried everything but it

Newer sound cards use Microsoft's Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) bus. This means that you usually need to install the UAA bus driver first, then the audio chipset driver.

If the sound card came with your system, go to the system manufacturer's website and download drivers for your model. For example, Gateway downloads at http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/dlcenter.asp

Gateway has a pretty good download section, so you might be able to find what you need on your own. If you can provide more specifics about your computer and/or sound card, we can usually give more specific guidance to the correct downloads. For example, manufacturer, model, operating system, etc.

I am not getting no sound, and this is a new

You need to check a few things

but first off ensure the speakers are plugged into the correct hole (most are colour coded and green is usually for the speakers)
Also make sure that powered speakers are plugged into an outlet and switched on by either a push button or turning the volume control (there is usually a light to tell you they are on)

Usually on the bottom of the screen on the right hand side is an icon for volume or for your specific sound card using either of those you should ensure that the sound card is not muted and that the volume levels for volume control, midi, synth, cd are all about half way up and now try to playback a media file or audio cd

If you are still having problems then you need to access the control panel from windows and check your sound card properties from there to make sure it is listed in the hardware list and that it does not have any exclamation marks by it. If there are go to the gateway web site and under support you can download drivers for your model computer.

If the sound is out is it hardware or software?

xp or vista? It could, of course, be either hardware or software...
  • Take a look in the device manager and see what the sound devices' status is, and use the troubleshooter available there. (Rt. click device, choose properties)
  • Google "troubleshoot xp sound problem" or vista.
  • See this article.
  • Check with headphones/earplugs to make sure it's not the speakers.
  • It could be, and frequently is, a driver issue. See this tutorial for help updating/reinstalling the sound drivers, which you can download from gateway.
  • Go to Gateway support, enter your serial #, and search their database for "sound problem". They may have some kind of online guide to help you troubleshoot your system.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!
