If the LCD was working before replacement, the most likely suspect is a loose cable connection. It is also easy to crimp those tiny flat cables, or to break the locking mechanism so the cable can work its way loose. Sounds like you booted to a black screen after repair, so I would walk back through it and double check every connection, then look at all cables closely in bright light and with a magnifying glass, to be sure nothing sustained damage (twist, crimp, etc.). Remember to check the power cable to the LCD, as well. No power, no backlight, no video.
