Unfortunately there is no central database or system for this sort of thing. It is possible (but extremely unlikely) that you could contact Sony customer support and tell them your concerns and supply the serial number. If the original owner registered their device it is remotely possible that Sony could contact them and inquire if the device was sold, stolen or reported missing. However not everyone registers their devices and if it was never registered this wouldn't work. This is an extreme longshot, however, unless you are talking about a professional studio camera worth tens of thousands of dollars. If the camera has sensor cleaning ability it should have a built in facility to do this. Otherwise do not attempt it yourself, check the camera manual or the manufacturers website for more information. Taking photos in low light is always in risk of getting what could be described as grey spots. The technical term is Artefacts. This is where the sensor has insufficient light to generate a clear image from the available light and the camera software guesses what colours should be there, often they are grey or black.

You need two things. A USB lead to connect to your camera and software installed on your computer to recognise your camera is connected to it via the USB lead. The software and USB lead should have come with the camera. The software will be on a CD or DVD. If it did not then you need to download the software from the Sony website and then install it on your computer. Depending on your computer, ensure you download the correct type. It will either be for a MAC IOS or Windows PC.
