These units senses a power outage and then switch over to the battery power to generate mains supply. The switch over occurs in milli-secs and does not affect the computer.
True UPS types constantly run off battery power to generate mains supply so there is no switch over time lag. These units are higher powered and higher costs units.

UPS battery backups sometimes come with two ratings, one is continuous use, and the other is Peak use. In other words if you stay at the continuous load and it isn't in a hot area, or in a place where heat can build up (excessive heat lowers the UPS rating alot) you should be fine, but if you are over that rating and into the Peak rating for more than 10 seconds or so (varies) it will trip to protect itself. Or it could simply be a faulty breaker. Look at how much load you have
Just in case you dont already know, the way to tell how many amps any UPS can handle is to divide the va by the supply voltage..in other words a 1200va UPS plugged into a 120v. outlet will handle 10 amps, but if you want a UPS that you are going to use at 10 amps you would want one that was rated for 1200va continuous, or better yet, go up to a 1500va and it will never let you down. Make sure if you are using the RCA connectors they are the red, yellow, white. Connecters that the red and white are connected from your device to the tv. Also if you are using a HDMI or something else. Maybe try turning up the power on your device.
