http://gateway.2wire.net).
You can do this by either running the HomePortal Setup Wizard software
(included with your HomePortal) and following the on-screen
instructions, or manually configuring the network adapter for DHCP and
obtaining an IP address from the HomePortal.
Determine the type of broabdand network access assigned by your ISP. Your choices are: PPPoE/PPPoA or RFC 2684 (Direct IP).
Wht should i do to conenct to internet
1. Uninstall or disable all Internet-sharing applications, proxy software and security software such as anti-virus programs or firewalls. Although every program is different, if you choose to uninstall one, you can typically do so by clicking "Start," "Control Panel" and "Add/Remove Software" and then selecting the software you wish to remove. Because Homeportal 1000 comes with its own versions of these programs, this step is essential to avoid conflicts.
2. Connect Homeportal's AC power adapter to the back of your router, and then plug it into a power outlet. The green power light should come on.
3. Connect the router to your computer. If you're using Ethernet, connect the Ethernet cable to both the router and the Ethernet jack on the back of your computer. If you plan to use USB, follow the same procedure using the USB cable and ports, instead. For a wireless connection, ensure that your wireless card is correctly installed on your PC.
4. Connect the phone cable to the back of your router and then plug it into a phone jack. This will allow the Homeportal 1000 to receive DSL signals from the phone company.
5. Place the Homeportal 1000 installation CD into your CD drive and follow the on-screen instructions to install the necessary software and until finish installation.

Need security key
In case of 2 wire router the security key is on the back side of the router.
if you turn it upside down you will find 10 digit number. That might be your security key for the wireless network.
if network key is not there or it is not working then you will need to open the setup page of the router and find out the network key.
if you have any computer connected to the router then use that computer to find out the network key.

I dont remember the system password
If you are referring to the password to get into the router there should be a reset button in the back that you can take a safety pin etc. and push the reset button in the back it is recessed in the back you have to reach through a hole in the case to hit the reset button.
hold it in for about 3 sec or until the lights on the front go off and start blinking as it is resetting.
Lock wifi connection
YOu can add a WEP key to make it secured. how do you want to lock it..? in what sense...
Using 1000SW,
When you get a 'cant connect to configuration server', dont worry about it, thats 2wire's configuration server. If you have a 1000sw, then you've been a customer for a long time and have been registered for years and dont need the configuration server. Both you and the 2wire have been configured for years. The 2wire is trying to reach the configuration server because you set it up again, im thinking you moved, changed phone lines, or changed service.
The 2wire configuration server is to set people's 2wire's up for the first time only, and even then it doesnt matter unless you call technical support, and then they can still help you by getting the serial number off the device when that happens years later.

should be a reset hole on the back or side of the router. Hold down that button (with a paperclip) for 30 seconds and it should reset the router to factory defaults
How to reset the factory defaults on an
Hi,
There should be a reset button on the back there which would required either a paper clip, a pen, or anything else that can fit in there and hold it for at least 30 seconds, that would factory reset it.
If that doesn't do the trick then go to gateway.2wire.net/mdc then go to Rests that's located under Troubleshooting and click the button that says
Reset to factory state
PLease select the correct option in the support page of 2wire to following the official tech support instructions.

Do a seach on google for your router instruction manual or alternatively try and find the paper manual that came with it.
All routers have an IP address which you type into your web browser. For example, rather than typing
www.google.com, you might type
http://192.168.0.1 to access your router. This special address is known as the gateway address.
From here, you are normally requested to enter a username and password, which are usually the same for every type of router. (The manual will show these, look for "default password/username".
Once you've successfully logged into your router you can change numerous settings including your wireless security. Again, look for wireless/security settings in the router user manual
