If you get a 'Limited connectivity" on you wirelessconnection on your laptop, it means that the wireless card on your laptopprobably did not get an IP address from the wireless router. To fix this problem, right click on the wireless icon on the Task bar and thenclick Repair.This will force the wireless router to issue a IP address to the wireless cardon the laptop.

3com used to be good things back in the old days. But this hardware is probably self destructing in some way (the problem is widespread, the manufacturer claims it is an old product and gives no solution). Do NOT buy network products from 3com (HP today). Correct me if I am wrong..

Try updating wireless driver software. OR wireless driver for ur router might not installed while on LAN conn install them with UBUNTU SOFTWARE CENTER. Try resetting the router through the reset pin hole at the back. Press and hold it for 15-20 seconds or until all the lights turns off then back on (not more than 30 seconds).
If the problem persist, your router is deem defective and needs to be replaced.

I woudl recomend doing a site survery of you house/office by:

Downloading http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/

Then turn it on and walk around to all rooms to get a good idea of the other wifi interference in the area.

Now go into the router config and under wifi setting find channel.
Now based on you site survey pick a channel that is used little or empty keeping in mind the overlap as seen in the graph. 1 or 11 general work well because most users keep it on default 6.

In addition you need to check to see if the router is over heating. IT needs relatively good air flow to work correctly also do not stack another device below or above it because the extra heat will become a issues. If it has been overheated before that may be the issue and it may be permanently damaged.

Also keep in mind wifi will not go though steel or water very well so that may be contributing. In additon 2.4ghz wireless phones and microwaves cause problems. Changing the phone out with a 5.8ghz one will help and moving the router away from microwave will also help.
